Hi

Anyone prescribed physio exercises as a way to get out of wheelchair for decades ....I'm keen but my body will find it extremely challenging......I'm always hoping to improve and always pragmatic.......just interested in thoughts of others.....I have found a tremor and weakness particularly one leg sciatica and oesteo arthritis causing added problems along with peripheral neuropathy.....

Iany of you do exercise....I love yoga when I've been able but been wheelchair bound bed house bound....doesn't stop me trying ....

Keep hoping for brighter future and give anything ago!

Feels beyond me and my chronic condition.......just wondering if its wrong advice ....I'm as active as I can be and very proactive myself......just thoughts of others be of interest........all the very best

Hi Cookingcookie - you sound like a very positive person, & I hope you keep an open mind. As a long retired physio, I have to say that exercise has helped me maintain a certain amount of mobility, despite it all.

I don't have fibromyalgia, rather the hypermobile type of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which comes with it's own challenges. This caused in my own case very early onset of generalised osteoarthritis, & I also have neurological problems, as well as fracturing my hip (fractured neck of femur) several years ago. All I can say is I now practice the exercises I used to teach, altho I have chronic daily pain.

I was told I'd be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40, which still, some many years later hasn't happened.

Physio, to be completely honest, as I now know from personal experience, isn't a cure all, but it may help. I do think you should give it a go. Do a little, but often, & build up very gradually; you know your own body best, so go at your own pace. It takes time, but some improvement is possible. I think at least it would be good to have a physio assessment, & see what they suggest; I don't think it's the wrong advice, tho I might be a tad prejudiced!

Thanks for the reply loved it...I am keen on exercise and over years have tried yoga exercise and swimming when ofcourse I am able.I have heard of your condition and wondered if something similar happened to me very early o.a ........stroke like events and weakness all trouble me and put me back in wheelchair......

I was always going for assessment and would always try best to do exercises...I'm a firm believer in activity of body of mind......so badly disabled .....thanks for replying....always hope some progress is possible with a good physio

Used to be a nurse...remember getting so many people back on their feet with physiotherapy......with time and patience......lots can be accomplished.......but feel like lost cause......but know very difficult when one has very bad patch......my daughter helped me swim this summer even gave me a toe in after I got too weak to carry on using my float but atleast I was in the water for awhile with my lovely daughter....thanks for reply...I can hear you saying go on go on go on-)! All the very best......its not over till its over! Kerp trying lesson of the day!

Hi to you! Sorry to hear about that.....ì feel ridiculous because I had to give up my work decades ago and now have early onset O.A for years and now needing a knee replacement at in my early 50 s......my father hss bad knees and he's 86.....probably the last 10 years badly....

Thinking of you and sending all my warmest regards.....that sounds really tough .....how do you keep going?

I keep going with the help of my son, a deep, dark sense of humour and a lot of Won't Power, (I won't give in). I managed to conquer my depression after my husband's suicide, because I had no choice, the children needed me. I don't have any other family.

I love to wake at Dawn, and see the world come to life, and each day is a bonus when you are 75!

I wear clothing which is inappropriate for my age (jeans and teeshirts with sarcastic slogans on). If it makes folk laugh in the Supermarket, that's great with me.

I love helping folk out still and making them smile.

Cheers, Midori

Hi Thanks for sharing your inspirational life story....it was so very kind of you.....it made me realise we can't take anything for granted and that we all have to grasp life with what we are given.

My grandmother lost her husband when she was young and stoically brought up her family and heavily involved with her grandchildren, my mother in law lost her husband very young and brought up her family similarly alone ......she reminds me of you....young at heart and a no given attitude!

You made me smile as I enjoy watching the dawn come up most days and wait to enjoy the colours of the sky and dawn chorus myself.....I guess its about being grateful.....someone once told me gratitude leaves other room for self pity!

I too try to help those sound me and take pleasure in all my family and friends......

Although being bed wheelchair bound house bound I have to get creative getting out.....and make use of my good days to stretch my abilities....I too have a no give in attitude! But probably never tell myself that.....although sometimes I think it leaves me trying to cope on my own.....and not reaching out for help I may truly want and need.

Thankyou for sharing your hope ,your strength and it lightened my day.....great to meet you ....love the sound of your clothes......you sound alot of fun😍😆😊

Hope you have a good day.....your attitude is contagious 😊 with all best warmest regards

Hi,

I really admire your attitude. There are sometimes Yoga or Pilates instructors who will work with you at home. Certainly I know my pilates instructors do.

Possibly also a personal trainer with the right kind of experience but I agree the starting point is physio as they are so skilled.

All the best.
