Falling out of bed

For the last year on & off I keep falling out of bed in my sleep, it obviously wakes my other half , when he asks me the next day if I remember falling out of bed I can honestly say I don’t remember a thing , I can go weeks without it happening. Is this another symptom of fibromyalgia to add to the list ,

I would say definitely not a fibro symptom I've ever heard of. I am surprised you have not spoke to your GP about it before now.

I would suggest you make an appointment see your doctor.

Unlikely to be fibro, but it does affect sleep? I will say, however, that a couple of years ago I was doing exactly the same thing. Almost nightly, I would fall out of bed, I even thew myself out of bed (those I remember).

I rarely dream, but I have a few dreams specific, and one is falling. In the middle of the night, I reach the edge of something, and to stop myself falling, I was grabbing onto the pillows, bedding, my hubby. I even began leaping one way (in the dream) and threw myself out of bed! My husband was looking for a bed guard as he said I was sleeping right on the edge of the mattress. I did sleep with a body pillow for a while, but ultimately, hubby moved into the spare room, so I have a king-size bed to myself, and the dreams have stopped again.

Like I said, Fibro does alter our sleep, so whether there is something in that, maybe it's triggered a dream sequence which, like the event, you also don't remember? If possible, try switching sides, extra pillows, even a bed guard. If you aren't waking up, you maybe able to safely reset your brain into registering the toppling thoughts.

Just be careful, I really hurt myself on a few occasions, and although my story is funny, this isn't a joking matter.

HiI would say it's not fibromyalgia.

My GP sent an urgent referral to neurology last week, got a message on Thursday to say consultant is reading my referral. I'm slightly different to you. Mine started with falling out of bed. Then I started zoning out, this could happen when I'm talking to someone, when I'm at the sink, out with friends etc. If no-one is say in the same room I can end up on the floor. A few weeks ago during the night I fell and cracked my head open, last week I was in the bathroom for 1 1/2 hours, my husband kept an eye on me, I ten kept getting up. I fell in the bathroom in Saturday!! I've no recollection of any of this happening. I come round and think not again. When I cracked my head open I couldn't speak to start with but managed to in the end. I was tested for having a stroke which I hadn't. Luckily I'm nearly always with someone. If I'm going to be on my own my friend next door said I can go in their house or she will come in here. I burnt my leg on boiling hot coffee black one night!! I have cold water in it as well now!! I I'm zoning out with a brew someone usually shouts pu your brew down which brings me around for aew minutes. Also, I have one hour or less sleep per night which doesn't help!! Hopefully my appointment will come soon.Sorry to go on but please go to your Dr asap

Lots of love Lynne xxxx

Hey Lynne, has your appointment come through yet? Just wondering how you are? I was reading your story again, and remembered my mother having episodes of collapsing. She would just find herself on the floor, fortunately she rarely hurt herself badly, but it still seriously effected her to day life. They have never found an answer, but she was diagnosed with arterial fibrillation last year. She doesn't think there is a link, but the whole experience hasn't left her with much faith in the NHS either.

Hope you are doing alright.

HiI'm so sorry for the late reply!! I had my MRI last week. My GP should get results next week. My appointment for neurology is about 80 weeks!! Hopefully my Dr can push it once my results are back. Don't know how many more falls I have to have!! Luckily I've got great family and friends who help me. I fell part way down some stairs last week, fell in the front room. I've ordered one of those watches that can alert people on my list if I've fallen and haven't moved for 5 minutes. It will give me a bit more confidence

How are you feeling today?

Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx 💜💟

I had to get an L shaped bar (search "bed rails") to stop me falling out of bed ... it does the job perfectly. It just slides under the mattress.
