PMR and Fibromyalgia

After taking prednisone and VERY slowly decreasing the dosage over 7years, I was down to 1mg when suddenly I had hip and knee pain, and hurting shoulders. Went up to 3 mg with no relief. Doctor finally diagnose me with fibromyalgia for which there is no clear treatment other than doubling my antidepressant. I see my rheumy mid-Feb so I may learn more. Are there others out there with this diagnosis?

Have fibro,

long periods of steroids can cause nhs.uk/conditions/osteoporo... which am sure know

are you eating oily fish and ensuring have calcium / cheese, milk, vitamin d and b in diet.

gluten can cause pain (after watching Doc Martin last episode can also cause a rash) and power/ energy loss.

sugar and yeast

milk can cause eczema allergy

may wish to discuss any changes with doctor before doing as they can do a blood test for gluten only if still eating it.

Are the areas hurting warm? getting cold in temperature, causes pain. can also be in pain when warm unfortunately.

gentle hugs

It think my mother has this now. She was diagnosed with PMR 5 years ago. Eventually got down to such low dosages of the drugs to be taken off the Covid shielding list. Pain in her knees never really went away. Now she has moving pain but also an over reaction to small amounts of exercise etc. I said she sounds like me now, I have been pushing for her to go and talk to a doctor for a diagnosis but she was is reluctant, but I doubt it would be the most extrordinary combination. All kinds of trauma and other chronic pain conditions can trigger fibromyalgia.

That really sounds to me as if you have dropped your steroids too low so your Polymyalgia has flared. I have both but the fibro came first. Can I suggest you join the PMRGCAUK forum and ask for help there.

I have been through a similar process. I must admit that my pain and fatigue is awful. I avoid medication. I take Citalopram in the morning and Amytriptaline in the evening.I am indoors a lot so take vit D. I buy magnesium and eat bananas for potassium. Those 3 items are to keep me healthy.

I have talked myself into believing that fibro is part of what I am. Those who are diabetic, or deaf or have poor sight etc have to accept what they have been dealt. .My daughter thinks I am stupid for not taking painkillers but I prefer not to get addicted. I do take paracetamol when I have a headache and when I need to go out for something important I might take Paracetamol Plus. Not too often or my body might get too used to them and then not work so well.

I am sorry for preaching. It works for me. There are so many illnesses that are worse. Maybe what I have said might help. That would be nice. I would rather have fibro than have frequent migraines. At least I know what tomorrow will be.

Happy New Year.

Hugs.
