Hiya guys My journey started with a frozen shoulder which healed but during that time I started with wrist pain which got worse over time I had three ultra sounds and an xray which showed nothing Rheumatology appointments were few and far between during the last two years so Psyhio refered me to a hand and wrist specialist in Orthopaedics I had my final appointment with Rheumatology in August this year and after a quick read through my notes the clinician diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and discharged me back to the care of my doctor I was given a private appointment paid for by the NHS for the hand and wrist specialist in October My hospital hadnt sent him any copies of xrays or the results my ultrasounds All he had was the referal form He asked me for some information I told him they had recently diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and he literally closed down I mentioned the recent lump that had developed at the base of my thumb that a nurse practitioner said COULD be a ganglyon cyst and the feeling of bone grating against bone, also the sensation of tendon pain He examined both hands but said he wasnt going to go down the road of further xrays etc and just to accept the diagnosis This doctor also runs NHS clinics I feel had been a privately paying patient, he would have provided diagnostic imaging of which I havent had for over a year
I have accepted I have Fibromyalgia I have neck, shoulder and back pain The stiffness and joint pain is awful but I can put up with it My wrist is worse and the pain is also felt in the base of my thumb and in the palm of my hand I'm apparently allowed one more Rheumatology appointment Should I book and insist on an MRI scan? It was once mentioned on a duplicate letter sent to my doctor that there was an outside of going down this route Has anyone got similar wrist and hand pain?

hi Northernnugget, I have a great deal of pain in both my wrists, I often wear wrist supports when they are very painful. I had been told years ago that I had carpal tunnel, I had a steroid injection into it, but once it was done the pain was unbelievable ! I was off work a week with it! I had had steroid injections before in shoulders but they were fine, but the one in my wrist was nothing like the others I’d had! Perhaps it was more painful as I now have the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia? I don’t know, but I get a lot of very nasty wrist pain & into my fingers & palms of my hands. As well as many other areas of my body too. I also have the splints I was told to wear at night, for the carpal tunnel. I get shooting pains in my fingers & like a cramping pain in my palm. Wishing you well. x
Thank you I have to wear splints for work Carpal Tunnel was ruled out but I wondered if I was developing symptoms that my wrist was picking up before before diagnostic imaging and now time has passed I cant help but wonder if It would show up now? When I had a Conductive Nerve Test the clinician said I was very sensitive to it but he said I didnt have Carpal Tunnel and thats when I was refered to Rheumatology Hope its a good day for you xx
sorry to hear of your experience. Similar to mine. However regarding your wrist it is like you are describing all my symptoms, I wear a brace at night and sometimes in the day. (Bought on Amazon) at the recommendation of a carpel tunnel specialist. My op was not a success and they can do nothing more for me . With this brace it stops me bending my wrist which alleviates the pain. They cost about £10. Hope this helps a little .
Hiya lovey Carpal Tunnel was ruled out but I cant help but wonder If Fibro picked it up first before any diagnostic imaging I'm going to ask for the one final appointment with Rheumatology and see if they'll agree to the MRI and take it from there Hope its a good day for you x
