I haven’t posted for a long time as not been too great and basically just shut myself away which I know is stupid now.
I feel I have come to the time where I thinm I am in need of a mobility scooter. I do not want to give uo walking but finding it extremely hard to walk anywhere these days. I have been looking at a folding scooter but lots to choose from. Can anyone recommend a scooter that would suit just to go food shopping etc, so not a road one as I still want to walk if I can. I have been looking at the auto folding scooters but they seem very heavy
Any advice would be much appreciated and hope everyone is doing as well as expected, especially as the weather is getting colder.
Thank you, Alison xx

Do you have a disability aids shop nearby - if so, I would suggest popping along and having a look at different models rather than just buying from online descriptions.
I think mine is the go go pride (not using at moment as needs new battery)
Things to consider include - where will you store it, do you need it to fit into a car boot (even split down, parts can be heavy - we have a hoist to get it in/out of car), how many miles can you get from a charge (more important if you are using it to travel to /from shops as you don't want to run out of charge half way home or anything)
Thank you so much for your advice. Yes I have called into our local mobility shop, but they did not have any folding scooters in and are hoping they will be in in a few weeks. Lovely lady who I spoke to did say that she would demonstrate the two options. Just looking online at options available.
Where I live, is very hilly and I don’t think I have the confidence to drive on pavements, so just for shopping at the moment x
have been looking as well between a motorised front wheel for wheelchair or a scooter, both are expensive, both are heavy, both have advantages
the scooter experience had was many years ago with a relative, also had to move one that had stopped working,
the relatives was a 4 wheel scooter, that had to break down into parts, the main chassis piece was large it was strong, easy to drive, time to build hmmm, lifting in a high boot manually was tiring, can see the positives of using specially in stores, sometimes a standard width wheel chair is too wide.
if going up hill choose one that has more battery mileage then need, to account for the hill. check the maximum hill can travel up
my points of interest are:
4 wheels rather than 3
weight allowance of rider
ground clearance, not all curbs are are low at crossings
suspension,
mileage,
how long takes to charge
size, weight and how breaks down or folds up.
will it fit in car?
a lithium battery is lighter than the older variety.
plane travel ?.
will need insurance?
the 6 - 8mph class 3 need to be registered with dvla
there are lots of preowned on ebay and many reviews on amazon, and youtube, local places may be more expensive may well get a better service if needs service or repairs
Thank you, will take all these points into consideration. Very difficult choosing but I will wait until my local mobility shop gets the folding ones in and then at least I can see how difficult it is to dismantle then setup again v the auto folding.
