have any of you found your legs/knees giving way underneath you, with fybromaelgia? My legs have been becoming stiffer by the day. Are any of you in a wheelchair?😜

Hi, I get a similar problem but lower down in my feet/ankles, extreme pain that dissipates to become a numbed feeling higher up my leg. I have fallen over a couple of times. I find then I feel like I'm dragging my leg behind me! Oh the joys.

Oh poor you! I’m sad to hear about this! Though it is kinda comforting to know I’m not the only one. I hope you’ll be ok.

Yes, it happened to me when I was busy with work, still the same if I overdo or do not pace.

I bought a cane 🦯 yesterday and started using it, I can see myself going in that direction.

Take care and do less which I know is impossible if you live alone 🌷🌷

I have a number of different health conditions that affect my ability to walk both physically and neurologically as well as Fibro , including Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dysautonomia. My knees have always partially dislocated on kneeling forwards or during knee based activity but it has become more frequent as I become older and because of the added numbness and pain from Fibro making it harder to be as active as I need to keep my muscles strong.

I am doing all I can to stay on my feet as long as I can , although I will need a wheelchair at some point in the future.

I use Nordic Walking Sticks which are amazing for many reasons. They help you to feel more secure when walking by giving you better balance and support if you get dizzy or wobbly . They give you better posture when you walk reducing the physical chances of knees , hips and ankles giving way and reducing the post exercise pain in legs , arms , back and shoulders.

They improve the amount of time you can walk by reducing the pain and also gently exercise your arms and core so helping you to improve all body muscle strength with less exercise intensity.

My sticks are by fitlife and only cost me £12 on Amazon , I think they've been one of my best investments so far.

When my knees or ankles are being particularly unstable I use a well measured set of compression supports , but only while going on a walk or doing certain exercises outdoors rather than all day , as all day use can be counterproductive and make your joints more weak .

Do you feel that your knees are giving way because of a decrease in muscle and joint strength?

Or do you feel it is more to do with neurological symptoms like coordination, muscle control or muscle numbness?

Each problem can be helped with gentle resistance exercises like isometric stretches , tai chi , low impact Pilates , short flat surface walks and water walking exercises and relaxed swimming. Just doing a few exercises for a few minutes a couple of times a day , or a couple of five to ten minute strolls , within your activity comfort zone can help. It can also does a lot to reduce the Fibro Pain and Fatigue.

Take care , Bee

Hi. My sister has weakness in legs/ feet and started feeling she was dragging her foot. She has been diagnosed with FND and fibromyalgia. She has quite a few falls and uses a stick. She has a wheelchair for longer distances. It has all come on over about 3 years. She also has a huge amount of brain fog and nerve pain.

Oh Yes. I know it well. I have a wheelchair, but as I live in Wales, which is more than a little hilly I don't use it, instead using a Rollator. Don't have the arm strength for a wheelchair up hills.

Cheers, Midori
