This checklist of the 2016 ACR criteria will help (ACR = American College of Rheumatology) fmauk.org/files/acr2016Fibr...

Generally, my Widespread Pain Index (WPI) is 11-12 (of 15). In my case I see a clear picture: My overall Ache in all 8 parts of my limbs = 8. My local pains are all 3 parts of my spine, so = 3. Limbs plus spine = 8+3 = 11. Sometimes +1 = 12 when my shoulders come to that. I often have a jaw pain, but that doesn't count.

And my Symptoms Severity Score (SSS) is 9-10 (of 12). My fatigue gets 3 out of 3, my sleep 3 out of 3, my fog 2 out of 3. Headaches usually 0 of 1 - if I have one, like today, then SSS = 10. Pain/cramps in lower abdomen I count as 1 of 1 - I have it 95% under control, but never a day without a bit of pain, I just know what to do when it comes. Depression = 0 of 1. 3+3+2+0+1+0=9, today +1 = 10.

WPI of 11 and SSS of 9 is way high enough to score fully, however it's counted (you can see under the checklist that there's two way you can still have fibromyalgia if you have very widespread pain but less severe other symptoms or the other way round).

My pains are in all 5 areas of my body. And chronic since Dec19. All my symptoms have been treble-checked.

I've started doing this daily on my blog. It doesn't vary much though. So I use percentages for every symptom to increase detail, which I find very useful to spot triggers and judge the use of long-term treatments, like my Chinese acupuncture and supp changes. E.g., they don't ask for severity of the pains, which varies: My Ache today is fairly high 40%, my pains the normal low at praps 10%, my energy is 10%, my sleep quality was 70%, my alertness 75%, GI 95%, and I'm feeling fairly lousy at 60% due to fluey symptoms, which is very unusual for me, so I'm looking for reasons, which I always find due to the detail, sometimes a few months later. Energy of 10% roughly means 1h of activity, which is probably optimistic.)

This is what WPI & SSS are also for by the way, not just for diagnosis, but to see how it changes over time.

And what are yours? ;-) 👐

For "18" altho the max. WPI is 15, someone seems to have mistakenly counted 3 of left and right jaw, chest and abdomen. These are on the list but don't actually count. Unless you've misread it?

And an SSS of 12 would mean you have severe fatigue, unrestoring sleep and fog, as well as all of: headaches, IBS and depression. Is that the case? (Might well be.)

And it's all fresh, so you may feel a bit overwhelmed, but that's something that does usually get better.... but also gets to be a 'symptom' we have to learn to cope with...

I am new to this group, but unfortunately not new to Fibromyalgia. I was interested to read JayCeon-s post. Although I must admit some of it seemed to be a bit beyond me until I found out what the abbreviations were. I have never been asked to score this way. Probably just as well as my score was exceedingly high. I have had numerous pains in my teeth and visited the dentist a number of times, only to be told that there is nothing wrong. Probably been marked down as a nuisance now.

Very interesting to learn about other people's issues (I don't like to call them problems, issues seems a bit softer) with Fibromyalgia. Also nice to know that I am not 'alone' with this nasty ailment.

Hi Kentish_Man and welcome! Sorry, I hope my edit above helps?

I also don't know of anyone ever asked to score this way! But the criteria developers as well as the 2022 UK guidelines actually intend us to use the checklist ourselves, so that we can use it and show the docs to get a faster diagnosis. They are also for the docs, who have to make sure they are applied correctly and have the say on it....

Careful with tooth pain!: Had pain in my left jaw off and on since 2017, I was also first long told there is nothing wrong... First seemed 1) psychosomatic to me and my dentist, then 2) trigeminus & 3) fibro when it got worse. Instead of asking my neurologist, I asked my 2nd dentist one more time , whose x-rays found 4) two root inflammations - one tooth out, the other treated. But 5) an inflammation deeper carried on. Made worse by 6) the filling opposite regularly coming loose, causing more pressure (not flossing there and pressing back in helped). 7) A tricky cavity next to it can't be freed from food by flossing, but (once it was big enough) with a thick interstitial toothbrush. If I don't get it free, it gets inflamed. Also it gets worse 8) when I'm strained a bit, so I've learnt to quickly relax and focus on my jaw in every relaxation exercise.... Anti-inflammatory supps have postponed it getting taken out, but it seems only a matter of time, and that probably won't be the end of the story....

Hi , sorry to ask if it's right in front of me but having trouble getting started this morning. Is there a chart or a booklet regarding these scores etc that I can look at and maybe give to my GP ? I've been asked to attend pain management service (Wales) when I moved here 7 months ago I had already undergone pain management for almost a year (talking therapies) and felt that I was ok at "managing" my life situation. Asked new GP about Fybro as my friend who has it keeps saying to me it's Fybro you have all of the symptoms more than I do . GP said let's send you to pain management.... I would like to be able to provide him with these scores to possibly get a diagnosis. I've been like this since 2013 after an accident at work and needing a hip replacement. Thanks everyone for this support .

Hello. Here is the link jayceon posted above to a chart perhaps you could print a few off or jot it down on a piece of paper to keep track.

Last time I was assed was quite a while ago, but if I remember the details properly it is something similar to JayCeons. I would type more but a horse has walked over my hands today, better than yesterday though when an elephant was standing on them,
