Yes, but mine is due to osteoarthritis, proved by CT scan. I put it down to fibro to begin with but my chiropractor knew otherwise and made me see my GP for referral. We are all guilty of blaming fibro for everything but sometimes something else can be the cause. Please see your GP to confirm the cause (easier said than done at present I know).

I had some injections into the back of the head as recommended by the pain clinic and that certainly helped with the headaches/migraines.

Do hope you find some relief soon.

Me too but I also have neck problems, spondylitis. The pain is at back of head and yes, sometimes like a shock. Doctor said it could be a trapped nerve. Last year I had injections in the discs in my neck, not pleasant but it did help for a while. I’m going for my third round of dry needling next month. First ones helped but not second.

Try a heat pad, it will relax the muscles at least.

Yes I have it all the time. I have a beanbag that I can heat up in the microwave and it ties round my neck. It does help. The pain in my neck starts at the bottom of skull and goes up into my head. Hope this helps in some small way.

Hi Kelly. My Fibro actually started with getting pain in the left side of my neck, left shoulder and migraines. It took about 2 years to be referred to a Rheumatologist to get the diagnosis. That was about 12 years ago, and the neck pain has spread to both sides, I have issues with both shoulders and the frequency of my migraines has got worse.

I've had several different GPs since then, due to moving; some have been great, others, not so. The information regarding Fibro seems to have improved over the years, so GPs are more knowledgeable. However, it's all too easy to blame every symptom on Fibro. My GP recently tried to refer me to a specialist for another issue, and without even seeing me, the response was - it's her Fibro!

The things that work best for my neck pain are: Voltarol Emulgel, which contains Diclofenac, an anti inflammatory, massaged around the painful area. A Shiatsu machine, which can be bought for a reasonable price on Amazon etc. Be careful not to over use it, or you could end up feeling like you've been beaten up! Diazepam works well for me when my neck muscles feel like they're being stretched to their limit. It's a muscle relaxant. Your GP will warn you that Diazepam can be quite addictive, and may put you on a low dose.

If you think your pain is completely separate to your Fibro, don't be afraid to ask your GP for a referral to a Rheumatologist. I've found NHS Physiotherapist tend to just give you exercises to do - they make my pain worse! - but a good Chiropractor or Osteopath is worth the money.

I hope some of this helps and you find something that works for you. Take care of yourself.

I know you are getting a lot of suggestions and I don't want to add yet more and complicate the situation but I've had a muscle go into spasm in my neck, torticollis, a couple of times ended up going A&E bc it was out of hours. They gave me Diazepam and Morphine. I couldnt move my head up or to the right without the sort of pain that makes you involuntary scream although i would say it was very clear it wasnt fibro. I also have chronic migraines and i knew it wasnt that either. It was excruciating.

Hi I have not had mu diagnosis yet for fibromyalgia but one of my main areas of pain seems to be my neck. I also seem to get headaches when I'm in bed and can sense it without lifting my head off the pillow. I'm on naproxen but it doesn't help me. Hope you can get sorted.

Hi my fibro started with costochondritis then went into my neck I had awful headaches and had to support my head on high chair , I had a scan and was told severe herniated disc in cervical spine but was also told the fibromyalgia was adding to the pain , I done physio , used heat neck bean and found hot baths helped , the pain did subside after a while , best to get your disc checked out to rule out , also I find sleeping with one soft pillow only helps.

I have suffered for approx 20 years with neck pain. I have osteoporosis, spondylitis and fibro. It's hard to know what is what but my neck pain is dreadful. Had nerve blocks and nerve ablation . Tried many different meds and holistic therapies.

Hi Kelly, one word muscle relaxant…oh two words. I have had that and that was what helped me also heat will help. I also saw numerous chiropractors over the years because my spine wasn’t in the numeral curvature in my neck and lower back. Hydrocodone helps too for the pain. If you several from migraines imatrix or ralpax will help the migraines. Before the interstitial cystitis came along soaking in a hot bath tub helped too. I hope you are able to get some relief. 💜

Heat definitely helps but worth checking in with your GP just in case. I'm going to get one of these for myself, might be good for you
