Pain clinic does not solve all the pain

Hi I went to 1 pain clinic session and never again, they have no clue on the approach and they do not understand fibro or other pain related items.

I went back to my GP and my specialist and insisted they reinstated my pain meds, as I have been able to work even though I was told I would never work again and that is the meds that allow that, I file a lot of pain away which allowed me to decrease my meds which I did on my own not because of the pain clinic, but I still require some help to deal with the rest.

Sorry to read about your bad experience , I have never been to one, I agree if you can get a good relationship with your doctor about pain meds and work out what suits you personally on a daily basis, I have meds and can up the dose if needed as stated on the prescription but mostly I can stay at the same level. Hopefully you can work out an even balance and continue your job. Take care.

Hi I have also never been to a pain clinic, I do however had a whole cupboard full of medicines that I take every day for fibro and also my gynaecology problems. Glad you can still work, be kind to yourself and hope your medication helps you with your pain too xx

I get that. The pain clinic don’t have a clue what they are doing. Most of them want you off meds but to fill you with injections. They have been no help to me and sent me back to GP because they don’t know what to do.

I get that. The pain clinic don’t have a clue what they are doing. Is like a psychotherapist ,session They change my medication ,instead of Amitriptilyne they said take Nortriptyline just change the name as the sides effects are the same. plus the nightmares yoga sessions I said to them I’m in horrible 😣 pain Front lower sides of my neck.

Upper chest.

Inner elbows.

Just above inner knees.

Top of the shoulders.

Upper back (at shoulder blades)

Upper buttock. And they just discharged from the clinic. My GP referral me to the Homeopathic Clinic , that even the physiotherapy appointments running by phone.I lost my job 1 months ago on the grounds I’ll health/medical capability.I feel a bit relieve with the Ostheophat when the pain is not to strong ,

I’m feeling lonely 😞 to cope with this.

I have better results from Nortryptiline than Amitriptiline. Amy makes me gain weight and is more sleep inducing I find. Nortryp doesn't give me the Hangover feeling the Ami does either.

My understanding of pain clinics is they exist to help you manage chronic incurable pain, they are not there to cure pain. They want patients off pain meds bc they are so damaging long term and will give you more problems down the line. Often by the time patients reach them they are on a crazy amount of drugs that have been haphazardly prescribed to patients by multiple GP's, so often the first course of action is to get patients off these drugs and try and build a clearer picture of what's going on. Then they are supposed to steer you towards mindfullness and talking therapies to try and help you cope with the pain mentally.

Absolutely agree! Years ago I had really high hopes for them, although against my GP's advice he referred me telling me they would be no help or benefit whatsoever.

But I had read all about them and they looked so good. Really should've listened to my GP😕 Spent the whole time being lectured on smoking and how I was causing my pain. Give up smoking and my pain would just disappear 💨

Well I haven't smoked for years and strangely enough I still have pain, actually more pain now than when I saw this clown🤡 who takes a salary that would probably take me at least 5 years to earn!

How many more people has he treated this way? When people are usually at their lowest, most vulnerable and are just asking for help.😩

I feel your pain!I’ve recently seen a spinal surgeon( who fused my neck yrs ago) about the increased frequency& severity of my lumbar pain. Scan shows progressive degeneration and bulging/ prolapsed discs. He has written to Gp& copied me the letter.

I take 4 codiene a day and occasional voltarol& buy paracetamol. Having stopped tramadol& pregabalin last year at the surgery’s insistence.

I’m awaiting a call from Gp to hopefully up / change meds until I can have 6 facet injections( long wait) I need to strengthen my core& spine but impossible to do whilst in agony!

Had call from surgery today inviting me to their ‘pain clinic’ which basically involves a physio& pharmacist trying to stop all meds!( a friend has been and had this experience)

When I said a consultant has asked my Gp to review my analgesia so I can attempt some exercise… they just said “we’ve booked you in for 10th Jan.

Gp’s are not actually seeing any patients face-2-face atm, and sure that will still be the case in Jan. But they will do anything to get patients off meds. Seems individual circs aren’t considered and we’re all lumped together as ‘drug seekers’.

A more holistic approach and caring more about patients rather money and NiCE guidelines would go a long way.

Shall have it out on phone with Gp tomorrow🤞

"Seems individual circs aren’t considered and we’re all lumped together as ‘drug seekers’."

Took the words right outta my mouth.

What do these Bozos actually do to earn their pay beyond practicing arrogance?

I’m really beginning to wonder that myself! My usual Gp is retiring at Xmas so will have to speak on phone to whoever is available- usually a locum!

Todays call went ok but was told to take oramorph up to 4 times a day…. A bottle isn’t gonna last long so will have to go through whole rigmarole again🤦🏻‍♀️

When I queried the ‘pain clinic’ at surgery she said it was an analytical pharmacist. He could only advise as doctor has the prescribing role. Told me to go along to appt in Jan…. Why, I won’t have had my injections by then so will still need what meagre analgesia I can get my hands on.

It seems the consultants letter fell on deaf ears!

Without my meds Amitripillin I wouldn't be able to cope with work and caring for my 3 young children and hubby. You know yourself, do right to yourself. Sending hugs and blessings x 🌺
