Had my first Covid jab 💜💛🧡

Hey all,

Thought I’d post this just to let you know how I got on with the side effects of the Covid vaccination and being a fibromyalgia sufferer.....

Had my jab (Astra Zeneca) on Friday afternoon.Went home feeling fine and during the evening my hard started to feel achey and heavy. Went to bed as normal and felt okay until about 3am when the all over aches and pains kicked in. So imagine the joint pain and aches you get with the flu; this is how it was but it seemed to greatly amplify the pain I get on certain points of my body with fibro. My neck was the worst pain I’ve felt for a while and I had a banging headache all day. It was a very unpleasant day overall. I felt really poorly and tired and in a lot of pain.

However, I kept warm in bed, took paracetamol, kept hydrated and tried to sleep when I could. I knew it would pass and today I feel 100 times better! Don’t be afraid of having the vaccine if you worry about the side effects. They are nasty but short lived. I made a point of letting my boss know well in advance that I thought I might be off work the day after I’d had my jab. For many people, side effects are very common. Just prepare for the worst case scenario and you’ll be okay!

Hope this post might help a few out there. If you have any questions that I may be able to answer, please ask.

Xxx❤️🧡💛

Thankyou - I’ve got mine next Saturday! I keep reading that many fibro people have side effects; and then I read that many don’t lol! So I’ll try to keep an open and positive mind. Glad you feel better today

That’s the best way. Everybody will react differently. Some with side effects some without. I just thought by sharing my experience it would help others. Good luck NannyNooNoo! Be thinking of you xxx💜💛🧡

I just thought I would add as well, I had the same vaccine as you yesterday (I didnt feel a thing as am one of those people who are afraid of needles) I took ibuprofen 200mg before I went in. At one point I believed she didn’t give me the jab as we couldn’t even see the injection site lol. Went to bed fine then during the night had achy arm, abdominal pain, fluey achy type of pain all over, chills and headache, I managed to sleep it off and woke up today feeling fine. I had taken another ibuprofen 200mg on return. The aches were not as bad as my fibro flare ups. Today arm only aching when I press on it but otherwise am glad I went for it even though I hadn’t slept the previous night worried about the jab xx

I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine with no sore arm or side effects.

Glad you had the vaccine and now better. We all react differently, I had same reaction as you but luckily lasted less than 24hrs. Both my sister and I had the same Oxford vaccine, she has fibro too and she had no symptoms other than a sore arm. I know its not nice on top of normal fibromyalgia symptoms but that 24hrs was worth it to be part way of having some protection. I too recommend duvet day, movies and some treats the day after, helped me too☺ x

Hi,

I also have fibromyalgia, I had my jab 8 weeks ago,

The only side affect I got was a bit of a sore arm ( sort of like when you have the flu jab).

Would recommend everyone who can have it, to go get it.

Did you get the astra zeneca or the Pfizer one?

lovemissy profile image
lovemissy in reply to moo196

I had the Pfizer jab, and just a sore arm for 24 hours.

Yes, most of the people who had Pfizer seem to have had fewer side effects than those receiving AZ one

Yes, it does seem that way.

I'm due to have my second jab within the next couple of weeks, and will be interested to see if It has the same affect.

Fingers crossed.

Not sure if this is the case although that could be my observer bias.

Hi HawthorneBerry, I am glad that you are now feeling better, I know it can be very stressful and quite frightening when you are in so much pain. I also had the Astra Zeneca jab on Friday, felt ok afterwards, but come Saturday, it was a different story. I have many other health issues, including Ulcerative Colitis, as well as Fibro, I was very tired, no appetite, very bad stomach, couldn't walk or do anything as pain went through the roof, I was on the sofa sleeping for most of the time unable to do anything, Im still not feeling right but, with the knowledge that I will definitely feel a lot safer when my husband will be able to take me out makes it all worthwhile. Got my second jab to look forward to now! Stay safe and take care everyone. XXXXX

Hello, I had covid last March and felt unwell with a cough/tight chest approx. 5 weeks - gp wasn't too concerned unless it got worse! Had my Oxford vaccine on Saturday (a gp jabbed it in - it hurt!)and 10 mins later i felt like the flu had hit me like a tonne of bricks. I'm very sensitive to drugs going into my body. Was like that all weekend and Monday my arm is very sore but I do feel better. The gp who gave me the jab said that as I had already had covid plus fibro; I would expect side effects and she was not wrong. Thank goodness that's done - not sure about the second jab. I would still highly recommend to any fibromite to get the vaccine. Take care:)

Hi Hawthorne Berry glad you are feeling better. I also had some bad side effects which I did post about but admin cut off replies to my post just when I was needing some empathy...i guess there were too many of us posting about our experience at the time....so glad people are able to reply to your post...and I hope it helps you to know that you're not alone with your experience....good to know that we will soon be getting to a normal future albeit a different one.

Hey Crosssitch1 , thank you for your lovely reply. Yes, it’s nice to get some feedback from others and compare different experiences with the vaccine. Still have a very sore and tender arm but it’s worth it. Sorry you struggled with bad side effects too- mine were really horrible as I’m sure yours were. Don’t understand why admin cut off your replies? Not very good especially when you were after some empathy and support. Well I hope you’re feeling okay now and go on okay with your second jab. Let me know how it goes and I’ll do the same my end. Take care xxx🧡💚💛

Thank you for your reply...I'm feeling much better now....I'd ended up in a&e due to my side effects...it was a very unpleasant few days. That said I still encourage everyone to have the vaccine...covid would be worse! I'm sure we're both looking forward to the next jab! Take care xx

Ohh my goodness....you ended up in A&E! Your poor soul! That must have been awful. I’m so sorry it made you so poorly. Well done for still having the bravery and determination to have your second jab. My arm is still really painful around the injection site and still swollen. Ohh well....I’m sure it’ll ease eventually. Keep in touch! Xxx🧡💛💜😊

How are you feeling now? Side effects still bad? I must admit I’ve been lucky with mine. Had the AstraZeneca one on Friday...am in Group 6 due to having rheumatoid arthritis. I felt a little tired over the weekend, but not nearly as bad as I expected. Sorry you couldn’t get to discuss how you felt the other day, I think it was just a case of multiple threads - but good to see you following up here xx

Thank you Lone Era....so pleased you had a good experience...it's reassuring to know not everyone has bad side effects. I am solo much better now thanks. I haven't told my closest friend what happened as she is a vaccine sceptic and I don't want to be her excuse not to go for it! xx
