Has anyone experienced problems with hair and scalp

Good morning .Recently been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia but for the last two years been suffering with sore patches around the crown area of my scalp. Made worse by cutting my hair visited the GP who reckons a hair follicle infection. Had treatment including cream , antibiotics x3 with no change. Was wondering if anyone know if this could be related to Fibromyalgia? or is it totally unrelated.

I have now developed to small patches when the hair does not grow. Only two tiny patches where I have had these sore spots in the past.

Sorry to hear this. I suffer with fungal skin infections and this might be something to consider, given that you have not responded to antibiotics. There is a type of folliculitis (hair follicle infection) caused by a yeast called malassezia.

The best remedy I have found is Nizoral shampoo - an antifungal. You can buy small bottles on Amazon and off the shelf in Tesco. Larger bottles are a pharmacy job.

Use the shampoo for a week and see if it helps. You need to leave it on for 3-5 mins before you wash it off. If it helps, keep using it every other day for at least another 2 weeks.

This type of folliculitis can also cause skin eruptions that look like acne, but aren’t. Notably on the hairline, neck, back and chest. If you have these issues as well, use the Nizoral on those areas too!

My GP prescribed a liquid application called Betacap. It is a steroid for the scalp and it works very well for me. There is also a steroid shampoo that dermatologists can prescribe. I have that too for bad outbreaks.

Hi. I get psoriasis (and hives ibs and breathing issues) if i have 2 many sulphites. I now have antihistamines from skin consultant. I reduce my intake of sulphites. To help the actual scalp i changed to the body shop ginger hair range, the change was renarkable. Hubby uses it now for his dandruff. It realky is a gr8 product for sore scalps. Good luck
