I have fibromyalgia and on many groups found it is related to ut however the meds doctor gave me haven’t helped so will call tomorrow see what they say
Hi, TMJ is not part of fibro but is common within our community alongside their fibro. But fibro will no doubt be amplifying the pain from it. While it does come up on here there are posts about it across quite a few communities on HealthUnlocked. There is no specific community and sorry to say I do not have any specific advice on it.
I am guessing the omeprazole is in case the naproxen upsets your stomach. Have you went back to the GP and asked for other options?
What's helps me is doing the stretches in these books (one set night, one day). I adapt what I can do of them to what my fibromyalgia is doing.
Taking control of TMJ Robert O Uppgaard, Pain Free Pete Egoscue.
Using a relaxation hypnosis download at night (I grind my teeth). I have a dental nightguard from my dentist.
I use damp flannels heated in the microwave ( careful not too hot). I put them on below my ears for a couple of minutes, reheat and repeat twice. I put ibroprufen gel on below my ears and over cheeks and jaw as necessary.
I eat a soft diet. I have ducophat toothpaste from my dentist which helps with teeth sensitivity.
Fat relieves it, so make sure you have good fats in your diet, like extra virgin olive oil, linseed oil. I think added sugar in general makes my pain worse.
I had TMJ a couple of weeks ago. My doctor prescribed Prochlorperazine which I took 3 times a day for around 9 days. All symptoms cleared up and have not returned. Naproxen doesn’t really agree with me so I try not to take it. I take Amitriptyline every evening to help with pain and sleep. I have found Amitriptyline invaluable to be honest.
Hi Thor7860, I've got TMJ as well. I ditched the painkillers. I discovered Naproxen is not routinely given in the States now due to it's affect on the heart and omeprozole is also not good a t all long term. I've got lupus and fibro.
I have successfully been seeking an osteopath who does a lot of soft tissue work. A Mctimoney chiropractor did very gentle adjustment and then osteopath has been working on the soft tissue. The absolutely hideous tinnitus it was causing is starting to abate now. I've also had a lot of treatment from a TCM acupuncturist who has been absolutely amazing at restoring function in my thumbs which, due to Lupus, where both unusable when I first met him...
Well worth exploring gentle chiro like Mctimoney, and cranial osteopathy and normal osteopathy - I'm having a lot of success and I don't take any medication except for herbs...
I’ve been on Omeprazole for years and don’t want to ever stop taking it as the indigestion I had was intolerable- docs often prescribe if other meds could cause ulcers etc
