Hi I woke up 4days ago feeling dizzy and unbalanced my dr says its a form of vertigo with crystals forming in my inner ear canal .I have done the exercises she gave me.. I've spoke to other people and they said it can last upto a few weeks and can reacure..I was just wondering if any one knows if this is anything to do with my fibromyalgia which I've had for 25yrs

hi, it sounds like you have Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This has nothing to do with fibromyalgia. When I get a flare up, i get the Epley maneouvre done at local hospital - thankfully it seems to have settled down the last few years.

Thanks for the info! I think I had this last year, weeks of dizziness that came on if I sat or layed down or suddenly made a sharp move. I was also quite ill at the time from not taking medication for another problem so I thought it was due to that.

No wonder my doctor was more or less unconcerned. I also ended up phoning 111 as I was so worried cause it had gone on for weeks but after checking it out I see it isn't a real big problem. But no one said what it actually was.

It did go away after about 6 weeks

Yes, for me it would happen most when I turned over in bed, or if I moved my head when sitting. Xxx

Morning, I get this from time to time but never as bad as the first time. I do the brand daroff exercises 5 times a day to stave off the worst if I get the slightest inklings of it. I found the anti seasick wristbands very helpful in the acute phase. But you do literally have to wear them 24/7 for a day or so for them to work. Don't even take them off for a shower.... Good luck!

I have had similar problems in past, I collapsed at work and was taken to A&E. Was off work 6weeks with it was told it was Labrynthitis. Still get problems, but not unmanageable.

I had a sudden onset of full blown vertigo noted firstly when turning over in bed. This lasted 4 weeks and l was really ill with it. They said it was labrynthitis and it’s lasted a year, not to the terrible extent at the beginning. Cut a long story short l have ended up with vestibular migranes. I paid privately to speak to a vestibular physio.Don’t let this go on for too long like me. I tried all the meds and they didn’t work. The physio said it wasn’t labrynthitis as l had no hearing loss. Try and research BPPV, vestibular neuritis and vestibular migranes. The GPs haven’t enough expertise to diagnose vestibular issues other than the basic.
