Palpitations

Hi I'm really struggling. I have suffered most of my life with anxiety and depression. Palpitations a big part of it. For the past few days I have been so anxious and my heart keeps jumping. I'm so scared. Does anyone else get this. I'm in a state of bad anxiety and can't calm down. I'm going to call doc tomorrow but I'm so so anxious. I'm 53. And going through the menopause too.

Hi there debs and welcome to the group 😊 I have also suffered with anxiety all my adult life. You sound like you've just described a typical panic attack IMO. But if you feel it maybe more then don't hesitate to call 111 and speak to a qualified person.

I feel for you. The fear we experience at such times is hard to explain to anyone unless they have experienced it themselves.

Have you spoke with your GP about it. I am guessing you have if you've had it so long. Do you take any medication at all. Sometimes medication can cause all sorts of weird feelings.

Thankyou so much for your reply. I am taking sertraline for depression. I have had tests on my heart over years. Its always been OK. My blood pressure is perfect too. I am probably scaring myself. Its just been a really bad anxious week x

Yep bad weeks can do it. Throw in the horrible stressful year we are having it's no wonder a lot of us are starting to feel the pressure.

One thing I alway try and focus on when I get that horrible I'm going to die moment is that I'm not going to die at all. After 50 years of panic attacks I'm still here. So I'm guessing a panic attack is not going to kill me, and I'm not having a heart attack. Have you tried CBT at all? I personally found it helpful. I was lucky to get a great prson to work with.

Hi, I suffer from anxiety, and also get palpitations, and a racing heart, sometimes I can hear my pulse in my head and it feels like my heart is gonna pump outta my chest, I've been to the docs, they've checked my heart, all was OK and they've put it down to my anxiety, it's absolutely awful, I'm not on any meds for it, just kinda deal with it and breathe through it. I'm 31, and the doctors really don't seem concerned, was considering some sort of counselling!

Hello, you have my empathy having suffered with awful anxiety, (around the time I started going through the change) I am very settled on duloxtene that has made a huge difference and helping me , I was put on sertaline and my anxiety got worse, it just did not suit me . I did find my practitioner nurses at my surgery were brilliant and very understanding, they too can give out prescription s. I hope your call to doc was helpful x
