Nausea and fatigue

mcglada0 profile image

Having done quite a lot of research into my debilitating symptoms of nausea and fatigue and listening to my consultant, I now think that they might be the result of high levels of stress and anxiety. I would never have described me as an anxious person but perhaps the constant pain has caused this. Has anyone else found that high anxiety levels have caused debilitating nausea and fatigue?

I've never really had problems with nausea until last summer.... And it's now a daily occurance. My consultant thinks mine is functional dyspepsia (an oversensitive digestive system basically....)

Whatever causes it, its horrible to have to live with.

Anxiety and stress can make my fatigue worse but couldn't say whether the cause of the fatigue is due to anxiety....

I’m so sorry that you are also dealing with nausea and fatigue. It really is difficult to cope with. Hope you have some better days. Thanks for replying. Xx

I would like to know the name of the new meds also. I have had a lot of nausea and fatigue since if been taking Cytomel for hypothyroidism. Could this be the culprit?

Hi, they are called esomeprazole. They sometimes help people who don't get relief from omeprazole or other similar ones. Day 4 and I've been able to eat slightly better, and nausea not quite so severe as it usually is.

Hi

Yes, I'm the same.

I do have quite a few conditions, though!!!

Hope you start to improve very soon but fibromyalgia is awful isn't it? Take care Lynne xx

Yes for me I have had bouts of anxiety /nausea when everything has got on top of me with health conditions and being anxious differently made my fatigue worse , trial and error 1st but found one tablet of 60mg of duloxtene has helped me calm anxiety and haven’t felt the nausea , anxiety made me go off food I know this is a common reaction but not very nice when your going through it. No one deserves to live in pain , have you tried anything different from your doctor recently to help medication wise, sending warm hugs xxxxx

Thank you for your reply and your symptoms sound very similar to what I’m going through. I’m so sorry that you’re also having to deal with these horrible symptoms. My consultant wants me to start on a low dose of sertraline. I’m very nervous as the side effects seem to be nausea which is plaguing me as it is! However, feel I must try something to combat the horrible symptoms. I do hope that you are having a better spell and the duloxeline continues to help. Xx

Hi x Have you ever tried cyclizine for your nausea ? It’s an anti sickness med and had more or less cured my nausea and I was suffering dreadfully !!

Thanks for your reply. It seems that a lot of us suffer from this debilitating symptom. I think that you’re right that stress and anxiety makes it worse. If only we can learn to control the stress! Thanks for your good tips on managing it. I do hope that you are managing to reasonably control your nausea. Xx

I find the fatigue causes nausea. I know ‘be done too much because I start feeling sick, and rest reduces the sickness.

That should say * I know I’ve done too much because I feel sick*

I would agree. The whole thing is so depressing and restrictive! I hope you are managing to pace. Although I feel as if I’m doing very little I don’t think I’m managing the pacing. Thanks for replying. Xx

I feel the same. I was the most laid back person, now my anxiety is through the roof. I jump at every little noise. The pain is so bad and no one understands unless they have experienced it too. I really don't like taking duloxetine but my withdrawal from them is unbearable if i don't have them. I told my doctor and he increased the dose. I refused this as it is bad enough on 90 mg daily.

Hope you feel more relaxed and stress free soon. X

Sorry that you’re having such a rough time. I start on sertraline today and dreading it as have been feeling very nauseous and don’t do well on meds. I do however, feel I need something to make me eventually feel a bit better. Had the duloxeline helped in any way? X

I've just changed to sertraline a month ago - my consultant changed me from mirtazapine, as sertraline can help some people with stomach issues such as nausea. no major improvement as yet, but I was warned it could take 2-3 months to properly feel any benefit. xxx

You have my sympathy I never felt nauseous before having fibro. I suppose the constant pain makes us tense all over and our digestive system is no exception. If we have s stressful event in our lives we feel drained afterwards and constant pain is a stress on our bodies. Do hope the meds help you.x

Thank you so much for your kind text . I totally agree with everything that you have said. This is day one of the sertraline and I feel so ill! How can one tiny half pill make the body react in such a way. I feel in a totally catch 22 situation as I really need something to help with the constant nausea but don’t know if I will be able to cope with the side effects of the meditation. I hate fibro! I hope that you have had a good day and going through a better patch. Xx

mcglada0 it seems totally unfair that some people can take pills with no side effects and others have side effects that are worse than the symptoms the pills are trying to cure. I know when I took antidepressants I felt ill within an hour of taking the pill. Same with Tramadol which my kind go had given me to help as a top up when I have the horrible flares I honestly thought the room was caving in in me and the dizziness and nausea were vile and with every pill it got worse so that was another med crossed off my list.

I am assuming you have tried natural remedies such as ginger, sniffing peppermint oil etc.

I was up all night with pain, I am an insomniac at the best of times but cope as long as I can relax by last night was really bad. I had some white substantial money off vouchers for a garden centre which expires today and my OH who rarely wants to go anywhere due to anxiety and depression suggested we go over and go for a meal. I know if I Head said no he wouldn't have suggested it again so I went with the flow. We got there late because of traffic and they were lovely but service was so slow and onemif my tablets has to be taken with food so by the time I had eaten something I was one and a half hours later so I am now sitting here feeling even more yuck. Isn't it a pity that we can't even enjoy a day out. Hope today has been a bit easier for you.x

I am so sorry that what should have been a lovely day for you turned out the way that it did. I know that I can’t cope with days/ afternoons out that turn out to be longer than expected. You sound very similar to me. Medication and myself just don’t get on! My head cracked all morning but thank goodness that it’s lifted a bit now. I still feel so tired and nauseous but going to try to work through these side effects if possible. I really hope that you manage to relax this evening and get a better night’s sleep. I think that our pain is always worse if we don’t sleep. I also find that if I’m not feeling well my fibro pain soars. Today this definitely happened! Thanks for keeping in touch and please let everyone here including us have a better day tomorrow. Xx
