Not sure where your Doctor has been but it was first approved in 2004 as a treatment for depression. Also under name Cymbalta (or similar spelling). Perhaps he/she means for fibro treatment but many have been prescribed it before. I haven’t got any personal experience of it but I am sure others who have will be along soon to give you their experiences. Hope you find it helps.

I stopped almost immediately I started taken the medication, it affected my stomach, makes me restless and lethargy, it's just wasn't right for me. I 'm now on notriptyline 50mg, it helps with the pain and also a able to get some sleep overnight try and see which one works for you.

Hi

How are you feeling tonight?

For pain I'm on

Duloxetine

Oramorph

Nortriptyline

Zomorph

Codeine (sometimes)

Paracetamol (sometimes)

They just about take the edge off so that I can at least get out of bed in a morning !! I haven't had any side effects taking Duloxetine but I do know it wouldn't work on its own for me because I have many conditions which cause me pain.

Love and hugs Lynne xxxx ❤️ 💜

Sorry to but in but you take many tablets that I ave taken for years but I am becoming very concerned about the opiates because there is a move in the medical circles to stop prescribing them. I have daily bad arthritis and as a result of a bodged operation for a broken leg which took three further ops to correct I now have one leg quite a bit shorter. This has cause my whole body to twist. I can’t function unless I can take the Zomorph and orimorph. Have you had any conversations about what may be happening with your care providers.

Take care, and gentle hugs.

Hi

My GP hasn't said anything about stopping any meds as she knows how much pain I'm in. I know I'm lucky to have a great GP xxxx

Hi there, surprised your doc said duloxetine new. I was prescribed it some time ago. Know some people get on very well with it but for me it was disastrous.Caused terrible vertigo which apparently is not uncommon. Try it and see what happens

I think they just fed up with me. I feel like I'm being a nusence. I rang them the other day in tears cause of pain and that's what he gave me and codene.

I would have a word with your Pharmacist. I have a feeling that some of those meds should not be taken together. Your Pharmacist knows more about medications and their interactions than your doctor does. it is their job to know and advise you.

Cheers, Midori

Hiya. Yes I am on 60mg of Duloxetine, the pain specialist recommended it. It has helped with all the niggling pain issues and the cramping in my legs is not so bad. I was on citalopram for anxiety and depression and the Duloxetine is doing a fair job at keeping the black dog at bay. Give them a try. Good luck and stay safe. X

Hi, I take Amitriptyline 45mg,these work really well for me, I still have really bad days and take co-dydromol to manage it, I also work so don't want to take anything too strong. I have heard of Duloxetine, been out a while but never taken personally. Hope you get sorted soon. Xx

Duloxetine's 15 years old and has a controversial history. It is originally for depression and is not over the counter for fibro, but is used all the same. I know people who it helps a bit. Similar is amitriptyline, also an anti-depressant which helps some with fibro-pain in a smaller dosis. It helped me sleep a bit better. I took it for 4 months until I realised that 7 things were not symptoms of fibro they were adverse effects from amitryptline (seizures, +6kg weight, higher pulse, bad eye accommodation, numbness, tiredness, dry mouth & cough). I took 10-25mg. Quite a few of the adverse fx of duloxetine are similar. I tapered it out slowly and felt better all the time. I much prefer a bit more sleep problems without all that stuff. But: I haven't got a depression, even though some docs say so. My psychiatrist confirmed he's sure I haven't. Good luck with the black dog everyone (good book and youtube-clip!)

Hi I was on duloxetine as soon as I was diagnosed, many years ago. It was relatively unknown then, I felt okay it did help my pain and other symptoms, but I began to feel really down and my now doctor ( the other one retired ) took me off them, it was like being reborn ( sorry if that sounds a bit dramatic ) but I don’t know how else to describe it. I’ve been off it now for some time and I feel so much better mentally, I hope it works for you as we are all different love and gentle hugs.

Rose x

In Australia at least it isn't new, I've been on it for 12 years for depression. I take 120mg a day and because I was on it before Fibro, I can't say if it helps with pain sorry.

Duloxetine is the generic name of the branded drug Cymbalta. Cymbalta was expensive until the patent expired and generic Duloxetine started to be available only a few years ago. It is licensed as a Fibromyalgia treatment. I find it excellent and have been taking it since 2008 with only beneficial effects. I was on Amitriptyline before, but it made me feel like a zombie.

Here in the States it’s been around for quite a while, and I’ve been on it for years, for major depression and fibro. Doctors claim it can be effective for nerve pain, but that hasn’t been the case for me. Currently at 60 mg along with 450 mg bupropion, and have been in a prolonged fibro flare up since Feb, when I had pneumonia (weird for me) but back then I only had a phone appt with my doc because COVID made going to the hospital too risky.

I do want to mention that my depression and anxiety have been greatly diminished by a new treatment called TMS, for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It’s being used here for depression, ptsd, anxiety/panic disorders, and several other conditions. Something to look into if it’s available and covered by your NHS. Best of luck to find some relief!

Hi Sore-feet2019. Yes, I was prescribed it last year, just 1 tablet had violent sickness, taste & smell of chemicals was my almost immediate reaction, so stopped. My system is very sensitive to many things but you may be fine, we are all different. Good luck

Hi, I take it for fibro and other nerve pain, it has multiple uses it was originally given to diabetics to help manage neuropathic pain, and like amitriptyline it has other uses dependant on the dose, re being an antidepressant. Hope you find it useful. 😊

Hi ! Sore-Feet2019

I live in the U.K. and was prescribed Duloxetine a few years ago , it is supposed to help with the Fybromyalgia pain and a anti depressant ! As with all the medication they prescribe , it wears of after taking it for a while !! I was on Duloxetine together with an other tablet , but for the life of me I can’t remember the name of that one !!

So yes it’s for pain but also a anti-depressant !

I hope that it works for you , as we are all different !! But it’s not a new Medication

Sending You Warm Hugs and Positive & Uplifting Thoughts

Hi sore feet, its not new it was prescribed to me years ago 2015 actually possibly before that. It is a tablet prescribed to help FB sufferers. If you come off it at some time you have to do it under your doctors advice.

Personally it didn't agree with me so I no longer take it.

Please look it up on any reliable medication site and read up on the facts about it and any other tablets.

What might be ok for some may not be for others. The decision is between you and your doctor/specialist.

My personal advice is keep a diary with dates and medication prescribed and make notes about what it does for you and possible side effects. Its easier to do this incase years go by after you may have stopped it so you can recall how you felt being on it.

Also, if you haven't already, mot sure where you are, I'm in the UK, please get a referral to a FB Specialist as some doctors are not really well up on FB and ALL that it entails. Hope this helps.

I have been on 60mg in the morning for nerve pain. Made me feel a little sick for a few days and interfered with my sleep for over a week but ok then.

Still can’t believe how it has taken my lower back nerve pain away and I can now stand in queue’s and shower without pain. Tramadol and fentanyl didn’t touch it. I’ve had nerve pain for 24 years.

I am also on Naproxen for my Osteo arthritis x
