I suffer from widespread joint pain and weakness that worsens in my cycle giving me bad pain and weakness in my joints (hips, back, knees, wrists and fingers) before my periods. My mum (who suffers from fibromyalgia) has said that she thinks (alongside other symptoms such as IBS and fatigue) could be caused by fibromyalgia. I have been through various other tests and I feel like my GP doesn’t believe the pain I’m in. I’m at the point that I just want someone to believe me as it’s having a huge effect on my day to day life. Could this be fibromyalgia? Should I bring this up with my doctor?
Many thanks, Jx

Hi and a warm welcome to our community. Here you will find information support friendship and laughter too. You can find general information on fibromyalgia at our main website fmauk.org
Your gp would need to do tests to eliminate other conditions that may cause your symptoms, then taking into account your medical history a fibromyalgia diagnosis may be considered.
As your mum has fibromyalgia, you may be at a higher risk of also having it. But definitely would suggest you speak to your gp about it being a possibility
I suffer the same some of mine is due to arthritis but my hands fingers etc are not. Some days cant even hold pen and drop everything. Its funny you mention your cycle as I started the perimenopause about 4 years ago and my pain been much worse since. Used to just affect my migraines and ibs before. I have much worse fatigue now also.
Need to try and see specialist really as there are group courses in some areas can attend.
Just make sure all else gets ruled out first as can be other things causing symptoms.
