Hello! I'm new to this group. I have experienced chronic pain since I was 10 years old, I'm now 23. I have been passed around GPs and physiotherapists, had an x-ray 8 years ago, been on different depression meds and been given naproxen only to take when needed and left on my own. I have been doing my own research, talking to a friend who has fibro and consulated with a friend who is a neurophysiotherapist who believes I have fibro.

If anyone can tell me how to get a diagnosis and make this easier for me to deal with I would greatly appreciate that!

Hi, and a very warm welcome to the forum.

For most of us it can take years to get a diagnosis. Some of us have had a diagnosis from our own GP, while others have had their diagnosis from a rheumatologist, and in my own case it was a neurologist.

Usually they will do blood tests, perhaps x-rays and/or scans to rule out other things which have similar symptoms to fibro first, before giving the diagnosis of fibro. There is no test for fibro, which is why they try to rule out everything else first.

Generally if you see a rheumatologist or neurologist and they do give you a diagnosis they will then refer you back to your own GP to manage your treatment, and won't want to see you again.

You could ask your GP for a referral to a rheumatologist, although they are very reluctant to refer at the minute (this was the case even before lockdown), because there is such a long waiting list. The only other option would be to go private if you can afford to.

Good luck. x

Thank you for your reply! Im just finding it so frustrating and keep going round in circles, my GP won't send me for any testing either, just tells me to manage pain and take naproxen. Its not enough anymore 😭

Welcome to the group, Ito am a new by! Not diagnosed but lots of other tests have excluded other similar things. I have gone back on to amtriptiline! Originally I took this for depression but found I was still depressed but in less pain - just a thought! TBH I spoke to a GP last week explaining I want to go ‘Au Natural’ for pains but recognise that isn’t possible yet as I need to research etc so in the meantime asked if he would prescribe the above - gave a low start dose with options to increase and repeat script! Now I have time to research! Perfect!

That seems to be what they always say but tablets only take the edge of the pain I have horrendous panic attacks due to pain.im going to try Simple Treatment hope it works

The only advice I could offer is firstly, discuss it with your GP and if they are minded to ask them to refer you to a Rheumatologist.

I have had chronic pain since I was around 18 but it took me til I was 45 to get a diagnosis so please don’t be discouraged or brushed off.

If your GP won’t help look for a new GP. There those out there who will help you.

Because now one really knows what causes it doctors just give different tablets to try and so you go round in circle this gives no faith in anything .I ve cbt various courses seen psychologist and now I am going to try a company called Simple Treatments which says it in my case caused by an infection from operation that as left a virus and that is what causes the pain.Perhaps you may like to read about it to see you think it could help you .thinking of you hope you get days without so much pain

Morning , a very good reply from MOAL61 , I had blood tests that were clear, did some pressure points on my body which I reacted too , the fact that I had been experiencing fibro symtoms for over a period of time I was diagnosed by my doctor but for some doctors will do further tests or send to a rheumatologist before you get answers, Sorry to read you have had this from a young age .The forum is a good place to have a read and chat if you get your diagnosis xxxx
