I've just been prescribed Gabapentin for nerve pain. Having read the leaflet it lists " viral infection " as a possible side effect . I'm 66 and am trying to follow all the guidelines. In our present crisis is it safe to take this ? Has anyone had raised infection levels whilst taking this drug ?

I’ve never had any viral infections while taking it. No science behind my reply, just personal experience!

I would imagine you are taking reasonable measures to stay safe from Coronavirus anyway?

The leaflet for Neurontin, a brand of Gabapentin says "myocarditis, or myositis sometimes resembling an acute viral infection." They have to list every side effect when for most people, there will be none at all. It's not worth worrying about as the risk is so tiny.

Hi I’m 63 and have been taking gabapentin for a few years, I also read up about it and was worried but decided to give it a try and it has helped me with my nerve pain. It’s always daunting reading all the possible side effects and I really did a lot of shall I, shan’t I but am glad I decided to give it a go. I don’t feel that I’ve been more susceptible to infection. Hope this helps. Stay safe

I've been taking them for a while, but only 300 mg, I don't have any problems with them. I would speak to your GP about you're concerns. Remember though, that all known side affects are listed, even if they are rare.
