Auricular Acupuncture for Chronic Pain and Insomnia

As many of you will know David was seriously injured while on active service with the Royal Navy. Now 35 years on he has deteriorated to almost being housebound. AS shredding the Myelin sheath and spine crumbling,, fibro, cervical spondy, IBS, twisted bowels, peripheral neuropathy and big time depression to name but a few. The worse, and constant pain has always been in his 'tail' and neck.

Assorted opiates, spinal injections, and lifelong member of pain clinics have become our normal way of life for too long.

And then yesterday......

Consultant from Gran Canaria pain team was visiting Tenerife for a private clinic and wanted to see him. Within an hour of inserting needles the neck pain had gone. Whoosh no more. Tail pain receding to barely a twinge. It was absolutely incredible. Needles stay in for a month and if pain returns then a little rub on both ears will sort it.

This form of acupuncture seems to be widely used in USA, especially among the military,as an alternative to their opiate crisis.,

This morning David has slept all night...first time ever. Woke with a smile too. Early days but maybe this is the breakthrough for him. And...I may get to sit out occasionally in the sunshine!!!

Pat

Wonderful news. I had acupuncture needles put in my ears during a session last year when my neck and shoulder pain had been particularly bad and it really seemed to help. He has left a little acupuncture "dot" in which naturally falls out after a period of time and that has seemed to help with energy. I do hope it carries on working for David.

Wow. I have not heard of that type of Acupuncture before, but I sense there’s a good chance of it working well for David. I am so pleased for you both.

Thanks Rose. Maybe if he had 10 ears we could get his other bits sorted too! But it should certainly help his depression.

Hugs as always

Hi Bananas5,

I am a firm believer in acupuncture. Have had it twice in my life and honestly both times the results were a miracle, truly. Not unlike what you are reporting for your husband, David. Wonderful!!

I am curious though, you say they will leave the needles in for a month? When I participated in acupuncture, I had to attend 2 times a week, but each time the needles were removed before I left the office. So this method you speak of has me very curious. Please elaborate.

He used to have acupuncture given by pain clinic but that was in the days when they had resources.

This technique is slightly different. Apparently there are 5 trigger points in the ear cartilage where tiny litle needles are inserted. Covered with micro pore tape to keep them in. The Dr only comes to the island monthly so he wanted them to stay put til his next visit.

Thank you for that explanation. Now that you’ve explained it, it does make some sense. I was told by my Chinese acupuncturist that each session builds on the last,. How is your husband doing today, still having major relief?

So far both his neck and tail are virtually zero on pain scale. However...his other conditions haven't benefited so still bit grumpy!!! The Doctor wanted to treat the worse bits which, thankfully, he has.

That is excellent news. I'm in the US and insurance will not pay for acupuncture. So it is on us, one of the reasons I have not been to see him lately. However, you have reminded me once again of the miracles it can produce. Certainly not that I didn't already know that, but still.

We can only get it privately here and the cost for consultation and treatment was only 50Euros.

Hello Pat , brilliant news I hope this will continue, Sun is what I need right now, I am thinking of going back to Costa Adele for my 60th next year. It looks like it has certainly built up since we last visited which is 16 years ago, (cannot believe that time has gone) xx

We moved here 4 years ago for a better climate for David. Of course I had to come too! Good weather can only help so much...and this Doctor is reknound for his alternative approach to pain. ( he is a damned good pain Doctor with conventional meds too.)He plans to get David off all meds eventually so must be a plus.

Do let me know if you decide to come....be lovely to meet you.
