Cholesterol / LDL issues.

I have a close 63 year old female friend with Fibromylagia. She also has elevated cholesterol and LDL. She cannot take statins, because they crank the pain threshold considerably. She also suffers from cool/cold temperatures that a person without the disease could easily tolerate. Any thoughts out there that may help? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. It is familial, but as I stated before, she cannot take statins as they make her pain unbearable.

Thanks again.

As with your wife, I have a real problem with cold.

I use it, tho', as one warning of a major fibro flare.

As Fibromyalgia causes inflammation of the coating of all our nerves, it makes sense that some days my hand will feel milk from the fridge as COLD, yet on flare days, the sense of cold is replaced by PAIN. It's worth watching out for this.

Otherwise, she'll have to start wearing thermals!!

Talking of thermals, I can't eat spicy foods but know that thermo-nutrients, such as Ginger, Cayenne and, especially Turmeric with Black Pepper (as Circummin with Bioperine) are known for reducing some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia; the Ginger/Cayenne to help in getting more warming energy from our food, whilst Turmeric helps reduce inflammation.

Because I can't eat these spices in any quantity, I take supplements. The Bioperine makes the essence of the spice more accessible.

As with all supplements, your wife should ask her pharmacist or GP before adding them to her diet.

I send you both my warmest wishes, dx

I have high cholesterol which is most likely familial but I’ve no way of proving that. I tried statins and the pain was horrendous, I’ll never touch them again. I just eat as well as I can, add flax seeds to my morning smoothie.
