More Myofascial than fibro in neck causing issues - Bruxism

I dont think in general I have TMJ I am sure my neck issue of aching and feels tired causing my ears to feel full is caused by myofascial than fibro as my body doesnt ache. (prob some Bruxism which is secondary) Very similar to fibro but its all around my neck which in turn makes my shoulders ache and back of head. All started in November. I have been using the Acu ball, doing exercises etc but the issue isnt going away. I also have hypotension which Im taking meds (5th week). ANyone help me with this? Where I can go or do? Also taking Duloxetine for mood drops and hoping this would help too. Im still getting energy drops usually in afternoon when I get so tired Im never sure if my issues are Fibro or more CFS. Or does Myofascial cause tireness? GP sayes I need to give the high BP meds longer and this will help with neck but Im not convinced.

Sounds from experience like your neck/shoulder area has become “stuck”. When this happens to me, I see a great physio who does either myofascial release massage or acupuncture - depending how sore the area is. I’ve never been able to fix this myself - always needed outside help. Pain can make you fatigued, and fibro also comes with fatigue, so hard to tell on that front what with the CFS as well. Sorry! Xx

Im thinking of going down the chiro route, did osteopath a few months ago which was a complete waste of time I was hoping for major improvements. The issue is finding a good chiropractic.

In my experience, physios are better with fascia issues. Sports physios in particular. And a good one will give you exercises to do at home to stop it happening again. But it depends who’s available in your area.

Floppy, have you researched magnesium for TMJ and proteolytic enzymes for Myofascial and Fibro?

Ive used magnesium in the past on and off and found no improvements in health. I have used digestive enzymes in past for stomach issues with success but dont feel its really relevant now.

My niece used magnesium for her TMJ. She divided 625 mg of magnesium taurate a day with meals for several weeks then found relief. Pain is one cause of magnesium loss, the first link contains others. It takes time to restore magnesium.

Hi I'm intrigued by these answers as I have had fibro for a few years now but mine is mainly in my neck and my shoulders but have constantly been told there's nothing that can be done to help me.

I am prescribed sumatriptan for the migraines that are caused by the tension in my neck and my jaw. I use a gum shield as I grind my teeth when sleeping.

My pains usually start with tension in my neck which goes up and over my head and my sight becomes impaired. My doctor insists these are not migraines but the sumatriptan does seem to help.

I also suffer with slipped discs, crumbling discs, bursitis in my shoulders and hips and osteoporosis arthritis in my toes (I'm quite the catch lol)

I'll be researching for most of the day now having read all your comments and hopefully managed to work out for myself what is confusing my doctor's!!!

Good luck all and stay safe x

Dawndanks, I encourage you to become familiar with magnesium and it's many functions, a major one being taking stress out of the body which makes it important to maintain magnesium adequate levels because stress depletes magnesium. Magnesium also necessary to activate vitamin D and thiamine and activated thiamine is needed to activate vitamin B6 which together with magnesium, thiamine and B12 are involved with nerve health, pain and many other tasks. Consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

Thank you so much, I'll look into that and hopefully get an appointment with my doctor within the next year (it's terrible in Milton Keynes) 💕

I was trained in Body Realignment by Jan Trewartha and can thoroughly recommend this protocol. I learnt Scar and Bonework from Sharon Wheeler from Seattle.

It is worth remembering that fascia is a complete entity from eyebrows to toes and pain in one part of the body can be referred from another part so the whole body needs to be treated. Body Realignment incorporates aspects of Fascial Release, Orthobionomy and Positional Release. I have found that all of my clients have had whiplash (simple to release) from falls; people always think that whiplash only happens after car accidents whereas it also happens if we trip over. The body ‘remembers’ incidents from every year of life. I was taught that chiropractic work is not necessarily the best as it uses forces whereas something like Body Relignment uses none; physiotherapy is better in this regard. Scars should be treated before trying to align the body as scar tissue can prevent realignment.

Jan Trewartha would be able to point you in the direction of a therapist in your neck of the woods who may be able to help.

Good luck.

I get this also , I have a bulging disc in my neck C5 , C6 and it resulted in pain in my neck and back . Then my right arm , then pain all on right side . Then to full blown fibromyalgia pain everywhere . All started with a trauma to my neck , which resulted in what I would calm whiplash to my neck .

I had steroid injections through pain clinic , 3 times . which helped the spasms in my back stop and made a lot of pain go away around my neck . I stopped getting pains in my face . I still have pain , but not as bad .
