I've just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and trying to cope with the pain, any help or advice please

What are you taking at the moment? What did the doctor who diagnosed you prescribe or suggest?

I have been in pain for years but got told it was in my head , now I am struggling they have listened to me. Also I've been using hemp oil

Sorry, I don't know Neopram.

What strength Co-codamol ? If they're not working is there any point continuing? Are there any side effects? Were you prescribed Lactulose medicine? Do you drink lots of water?

I can only take Paracetamol (can't have codeine ).

Are you able to use Ibuprofen gel or take Ibuprofen tablets?

Do you use heat? Hot water bottles, heat pad ?

Or try putting a towel in the tumble dryer for 5 to 10 minutes then wrap around neck and sit quitely in a comfy chair for at least 10 minutes. Close eyes & think of your favourite place.

Any point in asking for a referal to a Pain Clinic?

Just a few points you may wish to consider.

30mg/500mg co codamal but over years they gave me tramadol, morphine but didn't touch the pain , carnt use some antiflammtries due to having asthma , but I use hot water bottles all the time , just got a heat warmer for my back , so fed up!!

healthunlocked.com/fibromya..., hello there, have you discussed any pain relief yet with your doctor ??a lot of people try meds to help with pain, myself included, I try and use pain relief gel on my most painful areas, Epsom salts soak in bath each day , apparently the magnesium is good for Fibro ,(I tend to stock up when I see it on offer ) but find this really helps relax muscles etc, do you work ?? as getting some rest in between can be more difficult, Pacing for fibro when you can will help, never feel quilty for resting up as this will help you through the day, any little respite does help, I am playing catch on housework today but differently stopping in between with a cuppa etc , ive learnt if I don’t stick to doing this I generally suffer either with a day just not able to do anything much or sleeping more than. I want . I do look forward to weekends as I’m sure most of us do , ive posted a link above if you would like to lock your posts as only our community can see and not open to any other site engines on the internet. I hope you get some benefit from reading posts here, lots of info and friendly advice.

I too have just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia by a rheumatologist . It took years for them to finally listen. I'm still waiting for my medication to be sorted. Hot towels and heat bags slightly help me. But I'm in the same boat as you and trying to cope with the pain

It's a nightmare isn't it, wait ages for them to diagnose. Then, even after all that time they're still slow to help, offer treatment. It's like we have to keep begging and pestering.

All I can do is list some of the strategies I have adopted which help me.

A. If you have days which are worse than others, make a note of what sets off a flare -up and avoid this as much as you can (my key factors are: stress, cold, repeat actions requiring pressure e.g. cleaning saucepans, using scissors, COLD, getting over tired, etc.)

B. Check your diet. I've just started taking magnesium citrate, Thiamine (vit B1) and Acetyl L-Carnitine as supplements and they have definitely helped.

C. Be gentle on yourself, and take on neither blame nor shame for "being ill ALL the time".

D. Rest when you need to. Being in constant pain IS exhausting!

E. Learn to listen to your body and what it tries to tell you.

F. Listen to your heart. Keep encouraging true friends to come by. Asking them questions about their lives makes us look like great listeners and gives us time to do nothing but BE with them. (The second part of this is more difficult..... Be honest. It there are people who drain or stress you, excuse yourself from their lives until you are strong enough to deal with them).

G. Learn to ask for, and accept, help graciously.

H. Massage your muscles and tendons (or get someone to do this for you). We build up a lot of lactic acid here, which causes those cramping pains. I use pure Hemp Oil for this as it works on the inside too!

Try to be positive.... Sounds corny, but enjoying a sunset, cuddling a cat, insist a friend starts with a joke, etc., this sort of gentle activity snuggles the senses and diverts you, albeit temporarily, from the pain.I

Go on YouTube and look up Martin Rutherford. He specializes in Fibromyalgia and seems to know more about it than anyone I’ve ever heard. He explains the whole syndrome.

Other than medication, I find these help ease things a little:

Heat pads (I have two so can use in different areas of pain)

Epsom bath salts and a warm bath

Magnesium supplements

Magnesium spray on

Aromatherapy

Breathing techniques

Rest rest rest

Keep hydrated

Music therapy

A gentle massage, I have an arnica oil

Trying to get outside for a little while if at all possible. Even if just sitting on door step in the garden. A bit of fresh air and sunlight on your face.

If you haven’t already, try keeping a diary to see if you can work out any patterns that make the pain worsen.
