Duloxetine - suicidal thoughts and loss of appetite

Hi everyone,

I take 80mg Duloxetine and lately i have no appetite and have not been eating so much. Then when I start eating I realize I was hungry. Does anyone else experience this?

Also I keep thinking about overdosing on my tablets as I don’t see the point in carrying on anymore. I told my partner how I feel and wonder if it’s the tablets that are making me feel like this. Has anyone else experienced this too?

I am at home today and I think I am having a flare up and feel so low 😞

It is good that you have told your partner how you feel but you really need to see your GP. Medications can have serious side effects and your GP must be made aware of your thoughts.

Thank you, I am going back to pain clinic next week and I am going to tell them about how I am feeling and hopefully re look at my medication.

Hi Jeep2000

Sorry you're feeling so bad. Please go back to the docs. I cannot take any antidepressant because they make me so low. It's awful, I just came straight off duloxetine. I have also dumped all my other medication as for me nothing really works and now with this cold weather in England I am suffering.

Take care x

Hi Lemonyblue, thank you for your reply. I too think I can’t take any medication as I am a different person when taking them. However they do help with the pain I suppose I will have to come off the medication and live with the pain. They way it makes me feel is awful. Last night I was so emotional and ready to take all my tablets with no care for anyone. I have been in bed all day today and feel so drained. I am going back to pain clinic on Tuesday so I will discuss everything with them. Take care x

I too have days like you. I think if you can do some sort of pain management instead of the tablets it might be worth a try. Some mornings, well most actually, I feel dreadful and struggle to get up but I force myself to go for a walk in the countryside or to the park just to get my mind and body working.

I hope you find something that works for you, best wishes x

I was suffering with similar a while back and obviously you need to speak to someone as taking a overdose is not the answer as you dont want to die you want the pain to go away.

I suggest not waiting a week for the pain clinic and booking yourself into a emergency appointment at your doctors to have a good chat/review about whats going on and how you with the Dr help can get this fibro under better control. We suffer in silence way too much and every now and the the DR will suggest a different med.

Had it twice now when 2 different meds have made a real difference to my quality of life so hopefully there will be plenty of options for you and suggest CBT to your DR if you have not tried that as that can give you the tools to help.

It is possible the tablets are making you feel low, but how long since you were diagnosed? if ir is within the last year or so you could be having a grief reaction to the 'loss' of the old, active you.

Fibro isn't the end of the world, you just have to take it out of its box, shake it and look at it in the light, and then see where you can take a detour.

There are lots of possibilities, which you probably can't see at the moment; Do you do any crafting, painting, reading? There are groups for all of these things around. Your library,(Assuming your town still has one) will be the first point of call, as they have lists of organisations and craft groups, even in some places a 'Chatty Cafe', at which a coffee shop or similar has a table or two on a certain day for folk to roll up and chat over a coffee and cake. There is also MIND, which helps folk with depression. My local one has a coffee shop and activities, and I was a regular until I outgrew the need for it. (I was very depressed after my husband suicided, leaving me with two children).

When I was diagnosed with Fibro, I got depressed again, then I realised I could fight it by getting angry at the Fibro, for taking my mobility, and vowing that I would fight it every inch of the way! I'm still doing it!

Cheers, Midori.

Morning,

Yes, same happened to me but I was on pregablin it helped with most of my symptoms but the anxiety depression and thoughts of committing suicide were too bad. So I went to GP( made me feel worse) but I came on here and other fibro warriors made me feel better.

Speak with your GP tell him/her how you feeling m, they should help.

My GP put me on mirtazapine 15mg as insomnia got worse too. Taking it for a week, I manage to get a few hours sleep now

All the best xxxx

I was prescribed them last week but yet to take them if you weren’t feeling like that prior to taking them then stop ✋ immediately! Contact your gp

Monday for an emergency appointment ! Ring nhs 111 and tell them how you feel do not feel

Like this and be on your own x

Thank you to everyone’s support it means so much.

I have been assessed by the mental health assessment unit at A&E as my GP referred me there. They have advised my GP to reassess my medication and refer me for some bereavement counseling. They said it is my medication that is giving me suicidal thoughts. I feel like I want to come off Duloxetine completely this is so bad. I have never felt this bad in my life. I am normally a very positive person.

Do we have to take anti depressants for pain with Fibro? Is there not something else? This is what I will be asking my GP.

Thank you again everyone xx

If Duloxetine is not working for you there are other meds out there. I never got on with it as made me feel sick sick same with Gabapentin but i am pretty sure i swapped Duloxetine for Citalapram. Different reasons for wanting to try something else but the Dr was on the ball and swapped it over. GL

duloxetine was prescribed by my shrink for fibro pain & my low mood. It stopped me from crying and helped with the pain but read cymbalta hurts worse on facebook group, horrifying stories. I went from 120mg to 30mg too quickly and it got nasty so I'm stuck on 30mg a day for at least another month and then I'm going to every other day for 2 months.

Sounds like you need something like prozac or benzos to help you through. Seek help, its hard and not many listen but duloxetine is obviously not good for you.

From what I've read thousands of users are going through hell on this but the docs are not listening.
