I started on 30 mg of duloxetine 4 weeks ago an haven’t seen a major improvement , I have found my pain a little better but think that’s due to being off work! I went to a doctor 2 days ago an they have upped the dosage to 60mg instead . Ever since upping the dose I’m finding it hard to sleep? Anyone else get this

I totally sympathise with you as I'm having the same problem. I have only been on 30mg of duloxetine for 2 weeks. No improvement with pain, but do have problems with insomnia. I never sleep well due to chronic pain, mainly in my back, but now when I wake around 3am, I'm wide awake and really struggle to get back to sleep. I'm wondering how long before my doctor will up my dosage to 60mg as can't see 30mg helping much at all. Anyone else know how long I will have to be on the lower dose?

Hi bird88 I have tried a lot of combinations over the past 10 years. My rhuematolagist excuse spelling suggested duloxetine and pregabalin as I said does take edge off but I still need to take dihydrocodine or tramadol throughout the day. Tty and ask for a different strength or combination it is a long process but may make a difference sorry I'm not much help. Peace and love ✌❤

Hi, I still haven't actually been diagnosed with FM but I have all the symptoms and suffer quite bad from it. My doctor put me on Duloxetine at first and I tried them for a month with no improvement. So like yourself my dose was upped to 60mg for another month but it did nothing other than keep me awake! I'm now on progablin the maximum dose of 600mg a day and 30mg/500mg codeine/paracitamol. This again took months on end and countless trips back to the doctors and sleepless nights. I'm sorry to say I'm back at the docs on Monday as im still no better! I'm afraid you may have a very long road ahead to get the right corse of medication, my advice is to see a few different doctors. That's what I did and eventually found a doctor that seemed to care and know more about FM. As for the lack of sleep I'm still looking for a solution! Some days are better than others.

Hope you get sorted.

Hi. I was just reading the chain of posts and wanted to comment on your answer. Did you know codeine for most people it makes them droozy. However for a few it makes them hyped up, like it does for me! I take it and all brain fog clears, etc. And I only have 15mg*2 doses. I can't sleep for 5 hours after taking a dose: just lie in bed quietly, brain not busy but don't drop off. As I take amitriptyline as well (50mg) which helps with sleep, what I do is up the dose of that by 10mg which then has a stronger effect to counteract the codeine I have taken. Is it possible codeine does the same for you? Maybe you need to ask for something like amitriptyline or nortriptyline as well to help with sleep and pain.

Nope, I've tried amitriptyline in the past and it made me depressed. Ive not really had so many sleepless nights recently but I find I wake up around 4am everyday, bolt upright wide awake. I dunno I guess I'm weird. I'll see what the doc says on Monday. To be honest I'm just glad I've found someone who seems to have the same symptoms as me. I now know I'm not going mad!

Morning , it might be give it a few more days and if you’ve any concerns ring your doctors surgery, , I actually take my tablet an hour before bed and I sleep well most nights. Take care

I’m on 60 mg duloxetine and the difference was night and day. But don’t go up to 90mg as it was too much. But beware of some of the side effects. I swear with it. And in this weather it’s not fun! But I do get relief from the pain so I’m more tolerant of it! X
