SPEECH PROBLEMS
What type of problems are you meaning? I get words mixed up, can't find right word etc due to fibro fog, but my actual speech isn't affected
Do you mean other words coming out not the one you wanted? We all have Fibro fog moments and the speech is affected.
My words come out wrong and I slur words when fatigued. X
Word finding becomes difficult. Feel losing ability to speak and string a sentence.
yes, dear, I have had speech problems for years. But it is just speech, or like me, have you such weak muscles that they do not operate your vocal chords? I saw a specialist about 25 years ago and this is what he said, that my muscles are just too weak to operate my vocal chords. I knew I had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis then, and the fibromyalgia followed on. It is so very frustrating, as it has to be a lonely life, as any strain to communicate makes breathing much harder, and I cannot phone people. I have to stay much away from my dear husband/carer as much as possible, so as not to strain. He is very ill now, and I just happen to have a little voice return, which I am so thankful for. But this is the pattern. I lost my voice, no sound at all, for two months recently.
Has anyone ever advised vocal chord exercise or singing to help ?
I have slurred speech sometimes and my words come out wrong, some days are worse then others - I run singing groups for people with dementia and their carers. Before a session I am certain I won't get through it but once I get started the singing does actually make me feel better. Occasionally, I muck up a song but not enough to spoil the session and after a couple of songs into the session I can feel everything improving. Although I can barely stand once the session is over so much better and my speech is improved. I have to research into singing regarding health properties for my client group and it appears that group singing has multiple health benefits. It reduces anxiety, helps with the inner core, increases oxygen to the brain and improves health and well being. There are singing exercises on You Tube and lots of Community Choirs around the UK it's always worth a try.
