Have been on my codrydamol for over 14 years .suddenly gp says can not have them as on tramadol .have taken both together 14 years plus . Concerned how my body will react . Frightening to worry about withdrawal symptoms. Unsure that gp is correct will not have any side effects of withdrawal symptoms. Any body have experience of stopping codrydamol after years of consistently taking .was on eight per day 10/500 .

No doctor just decided after all these years to say it's not good to have both together due to toxicity . after 14 years why sudden concerns . Surly will not be good to simply stop. They offered duloxitine yet this is another addictive medication. Gp agrees i can be gradually taken of codrydomol after i brought it to attention on them over 14 years . Still awaiting delivery .Will i feel ok in meantime 2/3 days without any remains to be seen . Scary not knowing how my body will react .

On the NHS website in the key facts about this tablet they say

"It's possible to become addicted to the dihydrocodeine in co-dydramol, but this is rare if you're taking it as a painkiller and your treatment is regularly reviewed by your doctor."

I think if you slowly come down in dose you should be ok. Hope you get on ok with the reduction and don't have any increase in pain. Good luck.x

I have codydramol, but I only take them when I'm in a flare. Mostly I get by on Ibuprofen. My current CO-DYs are soon to run out, but I have Had them over a year! I don't like taking tablets unless essential.

My doctor has given this combination for over 14 years .hence why has this been allowed for so long . The gp simply stopped Cody altogether . What I am going through is so horrible . Very unjustifiable . There are dreadfully withdrawal symptoms. Not entirely sure how or why sudden change of how or why I have been given combinations so incompatible for over 14 years .???? Need to be asked . Who will listen ????? Or give truthfully explanation .

I understood from my GP that cod shouldn't be taken with tramadol as they interfere with each other so taking one of them, not both is a good idea. Having said that, it's not logical to suddenly stop taking a pill you've taken for years and not expect a reaction. I would taper the cod over time and hopefully the tramadol will take over pain killing duties. Good luck

Thank you .I say this to gp that 14 years of taking tramadol and codrydomol together surly i will have reaction from stopping codrydomol suddenly.sadly I find after forth day without feeling very poorly . Tremors constant sweats .( Hair soaking most of day) frequently in tears and body has been jerking and jumping .bringing neasea and iritability. Am so disappointed to be expected to trust gp knows best . I have to say the gp said she would Step Back when I tried to express my dear of withdrawal.gp stated there are none to be exspected. I am so upset .

I think it very unkind of the GP to leave you to go cold turkey like this, instead of reducing the dose over a period of time. Being that I only take a dose of Co Dydramol when I am absolutely desperate, and a former nurse, so I am aware of side effects.

Yes as I have experienced horrendous side effects for three days without my usual eight Cody led day . Strange gp was of opinion v no withdrawal symptoms to be had !!!! Now have full prescription to be delivered to my home tomorrow. Fortunately found a mear twelve tablets .Feeling rather more settled . Shakes and jerking body has all but gone . Temp still far off but developed bronchitis ( separate from other) issues . Apparently I am to reduce my Cody as best im able .this i happily will do . ?? How have i been left to take combination of eight tramadol and eight codrydomol together for over 14 years .especially if a toxic mix as gp stated . ??? What /if I have any damage to my health because of this toxic mix .

It's wrong that you should have been treated like this, without even advice on how to reduce. I'll tell you how I got myself off seroxat. I started by waiting till I noticed the Withdrawal symptoms, then took half the usual dose, I did this for a few days till the symptoms subsided, then I started cutting the pills in half and waiting for the symptoms. It took a couple of weeks, but it worked for me. I'm quite lucky in that I can do this without too much aggro, Done it with other tablets too over the years.

It might work for you, if you try it.

I think a strongly worded letter to your GP is in order. It is an abdication of their duty of care to leave you with no counseling or support to get off tablets you've been on for so long. A letter to the CQC wouldn't go amiss, either.

Yes I have not been given any guidance on how to plan reduction .Not even an explanation how or why end 70 left on this apparent toxic combination for 14 plus years. This was flagged up whilst in hospital ( heart prob) by specialist cadio Doc. He changed to codeine saying it a better option . Get gp sent on to send codry..have complained often over years at lack of pain relief . Even said I felt they not working due to body getting such a tollerence to them . Never had it been said it was unsafe to take . Simply told next step morfine an i won't be getting that as highly addictive. ?????? Am at a loss to how my health care has been overlooked in such a way . Feel unequalled to gp as in .Not able to complain in appropriate way as emotive issues rise me up . Don't know who to ask for support. Which I feel many fibro guys can relate to .my intellectual functionality is impaired .

Hi again .I am so confused . Received a long letter with instructions on how my gp will be taking me off my tramadol over period of weeks .Received reduction schedule .by all accounts i am now being informed my codrydomol to remain unchanged no reduction planned . I have already began to reduce codrydomol by half since Monday .taking one four times a day . At a loss what is going on .afraid of not having adequate pain relief .hence quality of life with diminish greatly . Let alone now my body will respond to such changes after many years of taking these medications . I fear trying to discuss these matters with any gp as tend to feel uncomfortable the manner in which I'm spoken too . This is all becoming distressing.
