Today I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia! 22yrs of doctors telling me it was all my hypermobility, I know it's far from been anything to be happy abt bt i have waited so long to get a diagnosis I cried with joy at just knowing I'm not going mad and it's not all in my head. So now I have to have a scan done and my specialist is going to tell my doctor which meds he wants me on. Just 1 day pain free would be heaven!

Hi, sorry to hear that it’s taken so long to get a diagnosis. Hopefully the medications help you. Different things help different people. I’m on a few different medications and waiting for a follow up rheumatologist appointment which is confirmed for May. I have even changed jobs I was full time until October last year. Now working part time but everyday is still a struggle.

Hope you ok and medications help you x

Thankyou, I was so relieved to hear "you have got fibromyalgia " I'm currently on 1200mg gabapentin 3 times daily, 8 Co codomol, 20mg amitriptyline. And Never pain free! And to top it off in have just been refused ESA as I didn't have a diagnosis. So here goes again! xx

Hi they can’t refuse you esa on the grounds of no diagnosis,

Refer to your medication you are taking and your gp has prescribed I had that said before and told them then can you ask my gp why he’s giving me drugs you say I don’t need phone call an hour later I got my esa ,

Good luck, hopefully now you have a diagnosis you can get ESA. I’ve not applied to that or PIP as I hear so many people saying about the stress of it all and then still be turned down. But at moment I am working 14 hours a week. Don’t do much else rest of week as so exhausted/fatigue/pains.

I left work last August as I felt broken both physically and mentally. I wasn't getting anywhere with my docs, I was so low. Not receiving ant extra benefits at the moment by I am going to apply. we should be allowed a life that doesn't want us to end as we all. Animals have the RSPCA..... We have ESA AND PIP forms to fill in and if they went enough we then get grilled to the point our anxiety kicks in and the confusion gets overwhelming......chin up everyone! Lol rant over xx

It can be a huge relief to finally get a diagnosis.... Especially after the length of time you have been experiencing symptoms.

You are on medications that are used for fibromyalgia already, although if you feel that you are not getting decent pain relief, it may be worthwhile agog your gp if you could change from gabapentin to Pregabalin to see if that benefits you more (some people do better on one than the other)

However, even with medication you may not be pain free. Medication may help reduce the pain but very few people find the medication takes the pain away completely. Lifestyle changes, pacing pain management techniques etc are often needed to help you manage. Often with chronic pain, you need to learn how to live your life with pain as it is always there to some extent xxx

My neurologist is going to write to my gp with a list of medications he wants me on and I've also been referred to pain management and mental health. It's just a matter of waiting for it all to come together.......and we're all used to that went we xx

Hiya, tbh i have no idea? As I've only just been diagnosed I'm still learning abt fibro. My neurologist just said I needed a scan on my head and spine doing. So if anyone in the group could give me an idea of what they are looking for i would be very grateful xx

I've had no help from my doctors. Pain management etc is down to DWP assessment. It was a referral from them. I have neuropathy in my hands and feet due to fibro so I wonder if it is for that? Xx

Hi. I have a friend who has joint hypermobility disorder and fibro. Suddenly her spine crumbled (due to lack of support from ligaments) and she is now in a wheelchair. Consultant probably wants to check nothing else going on like that. Shows he is good Dr and wants to rule everything else out and you are in good hands. Many diagnose and just discharge, no help with meds or anything.
