Hi Lynr, i used to get restless leg... had it for approx 25yrs...my doctor gave me a drug called ropinerole and it has helped me, mention it your dr hope this helps, & take care.
Hi Lyn, i suffer with RLS ( restless leg syndrome ) as do many other fibro sufferes, i went to my GP and he has put me on pregabalin these are starting to work for me but we are still working on getting the dosage right for me, i beleive there are other meds that can be used to help with RLS, as i am sure a few others on here will tell you. i suggest going to see your gp and ask what he/she would advise for you.
Hope this helps
Keep your chin up

My chemist told me to try magnesium early days yet for results still a nightmare every night , im stretching and stretching and feel like i have support tights on and heavy weights , let you know soon if it helps
Hi there
I have had RLS for 12 years. My doctor gave me chlorphenamine (anti-histamine) as my RLS would often start with all over itching. She also advised me to keep my bedroom cold. The combination works well most nights. Hope this helps you too xx
I also heard about the Mangesium link, or lack of. I also take potassium calcium and vitamin D.
I follow my dog's lead (sorry for the pun) and I stretch my legs out often when I am sitting. More about the dog, she is a very wise old lady and when she get up she stretches all her legs followed by her back and then head.
Vitamin deficiency, especially a deficiency in Vitamin D3 can cause this to happen.
I'm trying a multivitamin with just about everything in plus a vitamin D3 supplement. I can't count the amount of drugs I'm on and nothing seems to help so I'm gradually eliminating all the hard drugs and going down the natural route - and yes, stretching and excercise really do help...
I had it for many years and nothing worked and my GP here sent me to the sleep clinic at Papworth Hospital and after a few trials and errors, found that Ropinirole worked for me. After a year or so it didn't work as well so she put me on Gabapentin. I think I'm right in saying these drugs are for really bad cases. If you google RLS you will find a lot to read about it.
As renrobin says, lack of certain vitamins can cause it. I also heard a nice hot bath helps.
Hope that helps........
Sue
Thank you all for your information, will be speaking to my Doctor and i am going to do the streching too, anything is worth a try x
Magnesium works for me - I have been using it for a few years now, and I can tell when I am low on it because I get my symptoms of RLS back if I miss a dose or two. Use Magnesium CITRATE rather than Oxide, as the latter gives you the runs (in fact Mg Oxide is used for constipation) the Citrate absorbs better and is a good price and quality at Holland and Barratt. The Oxide and Citrate labels are similar, so beware I have read that Mg is good for other things too with FMS.
Hi
I take Amytripteline to help me sleep and also for my RLS, in fact it got really bad and my GP upped my dose to three a night and this has helped a lot.
We all have different meds for this, I think it's just a case of seeing what works best for you.
Good luck huni xxx
Pregapentin and Quinine Sulphate. Amipritimine are what I take. But usually if bad resort to Zopiclone sleeping tablet
Good luck gentle hugs xxx
hi i have had restless legs since i was 14 year old [ now 70] it keeps me awake hour upon hour , i dont drink but if i have just one glass of alcohol dosnt matter which alcohol , i do like sherry as this is good for you , but no i cant even have a glass of sherry , yes i am stupid i do like a social drink some time not often but boy do i suffer for it , also be careful of cafine late at night , i was told to eat bananas, i also get it in my arms , i just sit with my arms up in the air , and as for my legs i read if you stand on your tiptoes then gently lower down to floor 10 times it streches your calf . i find this can help a little , anyone out there if you find a cure let me know , in all these years there has never been a cure found , all these charity shops for different things [ i am not knocking them good cause ] but not one for restless legs syndrome] or fybromyalgia both are reconised as ill ness
Hi Sandytez , thank you for your reply , It's "funny " what you say about holding your arms up in the air togive you relief sometiimes I wake up , or think I am asleep ( if that makes sense) and one of my arms are held up in the air , maybe my sub concious is telling me to do this .
I agree with you about charity shops , but I think FIBROMYAGLIA IS AN INVISABLE ILLNESS , unless you have it people have no un derstanding about the impact it has on your life . I truly believe when I had cancer it didn't have the same impact on my life as this .....that's not me being negative .... I had so much support then....now I feel people just think I am lazy and surely can't have so many pains in so many places.
Sorry this has turned into a sort of a rant sorry Sandytez
I have had RLS for17 yrs and quinine stops it every time. No awful side effects either. .
