Thought I'd post one of the info graphics that we have put up on our social media accounts. It highlights that "Men get Fibromyalgia too." as part of our campaign to make people aware during men's health awareness month.

They do, though I understand the proportion of women who have fibromyalgia is higher than that of men, but nobody knows exactly why

Research has pointed to the ACR Diagnosis Criteria being an issue and also men not going to the GPs to report how they are feeling as possibly the main reasons less Men are diagnosed. The proportion of Men who actually have Fibro is considered to be much higher than previously thought :)

ACR? I do see how the numbers of recordings of men actually with fibromyalgia is lower due to them not seeing a doctor with an issue

ACR = American College of Rheumatology the people who set the criteria for Fibro diagnosis :)

Ah that’s a new one ... searches Google ... 👀👀👀

Not a new thing and yes there's loads of information online for you to read :)

in reply toMdaisy

Hmmm too much sometimes though it gets quite overwhelming

I’m sure you’ll make time :)

Time?! There aren’t enough hours in the day 😬😵

Everyone feels like that so when you can :)

I am never sure how much to read, what to trust, what not to. The internet is an amazing place but it is very very easy to be sucked in and be totally overwhelmed especially when concerning health conditions

You can always check the sources here and follow FMAUK social media & website if you want to keep up to date but worry about what you read online.

The Admin here are happy to help and try to always give a balanced, transparent and truthful account of everything as best we can. You cannot believe everything you read of course but I would suggest if Des , FMAUK Chair says it you can be assured it is usually correct.

Hope this helps

Emma :)

Hi Reece

It's amazing as I once mentioned we should have stick man and stick women (with skirt) to try to represent this but the moustache and stickmen in the word Fibromyalgia is amazing!! Well Done all involved :)

Can we have a ladies one to use both together to show it affects both in the future too ;) if you can think of something else for the 'M' and stickwomen for the 'I'

I will definitely share when you do from your social to the Andover group and beyond :)

Excellent ! All help spread the message :)

Hi part of the reason it's thought more a female thing is Men not seen in same way with the body build as more muscular and less sensitive nerve endings!

As in nature females are designed more touchy/feely with less muscle fibres/thinner/softer skin

Where as males are more "Rough" higher muscle fibres layup with thicker tougher skin

Plus quacks if they do see them think Lou lou

the musculature and previous diagnostic criteria are cited as reasons for males being diagnosed more nowadays. Increase in awareness and more trained doctors is also a factor.

not sure about the sensitive nerve endings though.

Yes men do get fibro too. Ratio women to men is 8:2. That is because we have that extra \ on the X chromosome that men do not have that tends to cause women to get a lot more stuff that men don’t tend to get. 🤷🏼‍♀️
