I would be interested to know what you were on?

Ive not exactly had the same but I know when my GP of 30 years retired the new go had just been on a 2 week drug related course so wanted all the patients off certain meds as he had the belief from going in the course that they should not be prescribed for long standing conditions only for acute ones. I surprised him by weaning myself off the one he objected to the most. I also asked to see a psysiotherapist who then referred me for acupuncture and hydrotherapy. The exercises given by the physio helped (well most of them) and the hydro was great but NHS acupuncture did not good at all whereas the acupuncture I oaymfir helps as he treats the whole person not just the isolated illness.

I know it varies from area to area but could you ask to attend a Pain Clinic as I is ok for them manage it better but without the tools to do so how can you.x

Gabapentin 300mg x3-3 times aday co codamol 30/500mg x2-4 times a day, I’ve been on them 2 yrs have had very little relief, he had been on a course , said all the research shows that long term that they do very little, I’ve had acupuncture before at the pain clinic didn’t do anything, I try and do everything right as was told by hospital, so sick of my life right now

I can imagine you are feeling abandoned and utterly fed up which I totally understand. When we do everything advised by the medics and still get no relief it is totally dishearteningly. I'm on Pregablin the sister drug to Gabaoentin, same dose Cocodamal but I most days have cut down to just 4 tablets of those so I have a reserve to help with a flare. I too have osoteoarthritis and I have 3 ibuprofen a day which helps but I know that doesn't suit everyone.

Even though it was extremely difficult at first and initially seemed to make matters worse I have found stretching before getting up in the morning and last thing at night has helped as as the core building physio exercises. I actually find freeze gel helps my muscles pain better than a hot run. We only have a shower now but when we had a bath a soak in Epsom salts really helped. The only supplements I have found that helps is Coenzyme Q10 for muscle pain and a good multivitamin. I do have decaffeinated tea and coffee now after having to drinking when husband was having cancer treatment and I found out it suited me better and I steer clear of anything with artificial sweeteners as that causes me more muscle pain?I honestly don't know what else to suggest.x

Thank you for taking the time to chat, I will take note and put into practice , I know the reason for flare up it’s that bloody pip form waiting to be filled in, I had to go to tribunal to get it last time, can’t go through that again, the little I got really helped since I had to give up work, now coming of meds they will look at form and think I’m cured, I haven’t got any fight left for the Dwp , but that’s what they want

List all the medication you were previously in and then state the reason why you can no longer tolerate it, a letter from your GO in that subjects like help immensely. As Bananas5 says a diary would help. I noted mine for certain different days eg a day I could stay in and relax without any pressures, a day when I went out trying k do "normal things" and one when. I had to get up army for a medical appointment. I didn't from the moment my eyes opened to when I went to bed listing what Indie and all the difficulties I encountered. It was actually very revealing I knkwnth assessor had read it as she had it in front of her. When I had my assessment I was in the middle of a flare, I reckon not helped by the stress and I feel that helped to rip the balance of getting some PIO care. Good luck.x

My wife was on gabapentin for something completely different for years to which it did nothing, the only thing it did do was cause her to put on a lot of weight. Ive been recently diagnosed and am waiting to see gp and pain specialist. I am deficient in vit D and have started supplements. Other than that, usual paracetamol etc..

One thing they used to ask you to do at pain management was keep a diary of everything you do in a day. Keep it for a week or longer and you would be shocked by how much you do.

People say oh I don't do anything but still get pain.

Then when they see it written down they realise.

It has been known for a long time now that pain meds only work short term. They were developed for end of life cancer patients.

More and stronger pain relief meds do nothing.

What that doc done is dangerous there ment to bring you of them Meds slowly and to give you something to help not expect you just to get on with it get hold of the pain clinic see what they say you might have to bye some over the counter drugs that can help a bit someone else said about the Cbd oil I would also say try that but all these things cost money it might be worth changing your doc find one that's a bit more understanding with this horrible sickness I wish you the best of luck let us no how you get on and if you ever just want to speak then your more than welcome to get incontact with me if I can help in any way I will take care and the best of luck with this x

Well, that sucks, huh? I'm sorry...

My pain management consultant said exactly the same that he could give me morphine but that's not the answer as I would get use to it and need more as it would not help the pain. He told me to cut down on them but have had bad flare up and can't not have them . Got to.do self management . It is hard when you are in so much pain.hope your ok 💐💝

Hi down 24/7 (I hope your username isn't how you are feeling, is it? If, so you have come to a place that is friendly and supportive. Nothing but praise for this forum so far and the members will certainly help cheer you up🤗 )

I cannot believe a DR would do that, not saying it didn't happen to you just shocked as I have a friend who decided to stop hers and she had the most awful withdrawal symptoms. How have you been since? Do you think speaking with another DR might be the way to go?

Pen X💜🤗

I am so sorry down24/7 that your doctor has treated you this way. I have found Turmeric tablets from Holland & Barratt and complex vitamin B. They are helping but I'm still using Amitriptyline 50mg, Arcoxia 90mg Pregablin 50mg twice a day and paracetamol to control my Fibromyalgia. Still in pain even taking these drugs. I really don't know how I can help. Hope you get some relief from your fibromyalgia.

Hi down247.

I've had FM for (probably) years and have spent all those years researching, trying desperately to find a reason for my ever worsening pain, without success.

Just over a year ago, I took a sudden and very severe, turn for the worse. I had already been on Gabapentin for 12 mths., but when this much worse pain started, I realised that the Gabapentin was no longer helping (if it ever did!)

I found myself back and forth to the Doc's in despair, trying ever stronger pain meds (Tramadol and morphine), but nothing touched it. To cut to the chase, I ended up in hospital, having every test under the sun, which of course all came up clear! It took them 10 days to send me home, still with no answers!

Back to the GP and I started on Pregabalin and Amitriptyline. The Amitriptyline did help me to sleep and I did find that the pain became mostly bearable. I also started on Sertraline, which I think may have helped me psychologically to cope with the pain.

It was whilst in hospital that my own research led me to discover that pain of this sort, whatever you care to label it FM, or any condition of chronic pain with no discernable cause) will not be helped by any of the usual painkillers (inc. morphine etc.) and they may even make the condition worse.

To cut short (again, sorry!) it is my belief, as unpleasant and unpalatable as it is, that there is no drug which will do anything to ease this dreadful condition. Even though my brain knows this, I still take stuff because I understand that we all feel we've got to try something! I've just had a whole week of unrelenting pain (I'm in bed now!)

The reason I'm writing this (sorry it's so boringly long!) is to say that your doc may not have the best bedside manner, but I believe that what he says is true. My own (wonderful and caring) doc, has just said the same thing to me. He said maybe we should try coming off everything (sensibly, not too quickly!) because if we try to block the pain pathway, it will just find another way through.

If I had some cannabis right now, I'd be right in there to give it a try, believe me!

Lots of love to all you fellow sufferers. It's not fair that we have this thing. It makes me cry, as though berieved of your former life.

Xxx

I'd see another doctor if I were you. I was advised by a GP to come off one of my medications. She said to stop it and not wean off. I did what she said and had a manic episode which has resulted in me being suspended from work. I have got a meeting on Friday but don't believe they'll go in my favour.
