Hi everyone, I was diagnosed this year with Fibro, have it for many years. I’m curious if seeing a rheumatologist is really worth it? I kinda figure since much isn’t known about Fibro maybe a rheumatologist wouldn’t know more than my primary care doctor? Has anyone had really good or bad results from seeing a rheumatologist?

Hi christyggh, and welcome onboard.
Are you in the UK? If so, generally most rheumatologists will just verify the diagnosis, and then discharge you back to your GP again.
If you're in the US then I'm sorry, but I don't really know how the system works there, but I am sure there will be others here who can advise you. xx
In my experience Rheumatology is the best place to go. GP's have very little knowledge on Fibro where as Rheumatology know lots and can point you in the right directions I.e. Pain management CBT I have found them great.
I saw 2 rheumatologists, one privately and one NHS ( saw first as there was such a long wait for NHS and I wanted confirmation it wasn't Lupus) Knowing it wasn't Lupus helped but both rheumys just referred me back to GP. Didn't bother going to him as he's as useful as a chocolate teapot.
If you're not in the UK, somewhere where a rheumatologist will treat you effectively, go for it.
Hi there I can see you have had some good replies already, for me personally although it took time I was diagnosed by my doc and didn’t see rheumatologist but like someone said they can refer you to pain management etc, let us know how you get on ,il also post this link healthunlocked.com/fibromya..., it normally generates more privacy for you and other members x
