Pain: I’ve being told to do exercises... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Pain
I've found stretching and very light exercise (4 mins on an exercise bike twice a day, very very light weights) has really helped me.
Hi, Okay the exercise does increase the pain to begin with but if you stick at it you become more 'flexible' and your pain level does go down. Aqua Aerobics was great for me as the water allows you to exercise better. Word of warning - councils have reduced the temperature of the water in pools to save money. If this is the case be careful of how long you stay in the water - you know how cold affects us.
yes - exercise has been shown to be one of the most beneficial treatments for fibromyalgia. I just posted this in another reply regarding building up slowly
I always suggest to people that you start off by doing LESS than you can do now. using walking for an example.
- You are able to walk to the end of your garden, so you start by walking this distance a few times a day.
- to increase you walk to the first lampost (or the next door neighbour's gate etc) ... and do this for a few days
- when able to do this comfortably, you walk to the next lampost etc ... and continue increasing
it doesnt matter how long it takes you to slowly increase .... some people might find they can increase the distance every other day ..... another person might find they can only increase once a week. but gradually you will find that the muscle strength increases and that you are able to do more activity. xxxx
Thankyou very much will do that
Also learn when doing too much! as i was going to a gym for disabilities every week was doing ok for a while then started to struggle with it so you end up going backwards.
check for places in area that do similar as get someone that talks to you and keeps an eye on you.
Stretching is good as we get very tight on muscles
I'm wondering about exercise esp if sleep is bad. We can tax areas that are unaccustomed to exercise then with poor sleep they fail to recover in a timely fashion. I'm suffering now n wondering do I continue as the pain is driving my sleep to b e even worse than usual. Fibro is often classed as a sleep disorder with pain the result of poor body maintenance during 'sleep' hours. Really anything that can smack of stressing the body or overdoing is likely not good.
Simple exercise is the thing. For me that means lots of little walks. Keeping moving pottering about. Maybe putting music on and having a wiggle or a gentle boogie around my kitchen. Stretching and pushing to do 'exercises' always seems to cause troubles. In the end we all find what suits us. Inactivity will always drive more pain tho so pushing to get going to walk around the house even is important. I find walking out pain saves me but it can be hard sometimes to face the pain to do it.
I remember someone saying how easy it is to spot a fibro. They can't sit still! They fidget with pain as they stiffen up.
