I am not fit to go to work and my doctor agrees but I am worried about my ESA assessment next week as I have heard terrible stories.

Thank you, I suppose it really depends on the assessor, but when I was awarded 0 points at my PIP medical I was totally gobsmacked!

Hi I hope you are well I'm sure there's a lot of people on here who have been through or are going through the same worry as yourself all you can do is be honest everyone told me to think of my worst day which is fine if you are having a bad day when you have your assessment but if you are lucky enough to have an ok day it's really hard to get in the mindset of your worst day I had mine three weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything from the dwp make sure someone goes with maybe get them to answer most of the questions that they ask you don't go wearing make up or do your hair or take a bag with you if you take medication and if it's possible take a repeat prescription with you but get the person with you to hold it and give it to the assessor if you are really worried you can go online and do the esa self test it gives you an idea of what will be asked and the answers and how many points you may get good luck i hope it goes well for you ❤xx

Thing is, a couple of years ago I applied for PIP and at the assessment I was awarded 0 points, the assessor didn't seem to listen to a word I said. I applied for a home visit for this ESA but was turned down. Apparently they have cameras in the car park, it is so intimidating x

Surely they wouldn't be able to snoop on you in car park

I have read lots of stories on these health forums confirming this. For example, when I was awarded 0 points at my PIP medical, in the report it stated that I had no problems walking from the car park and that I carried my handbag ok. They did not seem to have listened to a single word I said !!!

I had two assessments before the one a few weeks ago and I got 0 points the reports was totally different to the actual medical alot of things that were false claims in the reports as well and I have read and heard from other people that have got 0 points as well I don't understand why you weren't allowed a home visit though? Xx

Did you get ESA after your most recent appointment though and was it a home visit x

mrslindypoos profile image
mrslindypoos in reply toangiecxx

How did you get another assessment after the one awarding you 0 points, did you appeal. Did you have a home visit ?

angiecxx profile image
angiecxx in reply tomrslindypoos

The first assessment I put in for a mandatory reconsideration but I didn't get that but I didn't appeal either because I had my date for my op which was a few months after and I went onto j.s.a but my work adviser was very understanding and didn't push me into looking for work then I thought I would be ok once I had recovered from my op but I wasn't getting better just worse and I got diagnosed with fibro so I stayed on esa had a medical got 0 points and I'm currently appealing for that one but because when I went for the medical I had only just been diagnosed with fibro the assessor didn't include it in the medical which meant whilst I'm appealing I i could put in for esa on the condition that I have another long term health condition I'm still waiting to hear about it it's been nearly three weeks now I had to go to the assessment centre as I only got the appointment through the week before and the one I'm waiting to hear about was totally different from the other medicals i was in and out within ten minutes I didn't have to do any physical exercise i think it's just a case of who you get and how you are on the day have you got a letter from your gp to take with you? X

I thought that when you got 0 points then they stopped ESA payments and then you had to wait to apply for ESA again giving a new different health condition x

angiecxx profile image
angiecxx in reply tomrslindypoos

Yes that's right but as I said I went back on it because I had been diagnosed with fibro x

mrslindypoos profile image
mrslindypoos in reply toangiecxx

What is the procedure of going back on ESA with a new health condition and do I have to wait a certain length of time x

angiecxx in reply tomrslindypoos

If you fail your medical which fingers crossed you don't but if you do and you have a new health condition you need to go to your gp and ask for a sick note stating the new health condition on it then send it to the esa soon as they get it you will be put back onto e.s.a I get my sick notes sent to the esa through my local job centre as they can scan it through to the esa and they will get it there and then x

Did you have a home visit? Did you have to lift up your arms and legs etc. as I did on my PIP medical. I have pains and pins and needles especially in left arm but my gp is still investigating this. I have read so many stories about poor people who are a lot worse than me getting 0 points x

Trouble is, I am too honest, and even though I suffer from depression I try to look presentable. There are a few people living in my road who are just great actors and they are on the highest rate PIP benefits with mobility cars and I have to smile when I watch them carrying several bags of shopping and running with ease along the road.
