I have just sent off both my esa and pip forms. I have included some photos of my swollen hands, wrists, ankles and feet. I have also sent a letter from my best friend, who has supported me every day since last September, when I began to get ill and a letter from my GP. GP's letter is, I believe, very good. He describes how I present, my pain being too complex for them to deal with and refers to my many swellings. With strong evidence, will I still be called in for a medical assessment?

Thanks Ajay, I'm trying not to worry about it but it's difficult! Thanks again xx
For PIP most deffinately you will be assessed, this came about because of numerous cheats many years ago who claimed benefits falsley so now many are are labelled the same. They will look at your disabilities and deformaties, if you feeel you cannot go to a centre (esp if its a long way from home)ask about a home assessment but seriously you cannot get benefits without a face to face interview.assessment..I hope you succeed
Whether you get called in to a face to face in an office or visited at home seems to depend on where you live. In the Midlands and Wales, Capita have the contract for the disability assessments and they nearly always visit you at home. Elsewhere it seems to vary.
If you read the guidance for assessors produced by DWP, you will get a good idea of what they are looking for and how they reach their conclusions.
Remember that they watch you and record their observations. If you say you cannot walk well, then walk OK from your front door to the room where you see them, they will say your mobility seems fine to them. If you say you struggle with manual dexterity, but you open the front door, hand over your identity documents and tell them you drive, they will say your dexterity looks good to them, so you can cook, dress and wash without help.
Take care. Their job is to score you as low as they can, consistent with what they see or read.
