Hiya I'm struggling with something hoping you guys could help. I'm having a flare up and my dearest friend thinks it's something new and I must go to the dr. Ive had fibro for 7 years. How do you explain to people? I really thought she got it tho and I'm upset.

`I don't think very many people really "get it". My uncle told me I should "buck up" and then he started telling me about all of his aches and pains. I asked him if he had pain 24/7 without much relief, from 6-9 most of the time and he still didn't get it.

It is still hard for me to understand what's going on with my body so I get why some of my family n friends struggle. My pet hate is when they ask have u took ur tablets or are you in bed again that's all you do is sleep i blow my top 🙈lol. The only 1that really understands is my 12 year old. I use the spoon theory to try explain how things affect me. Take care (warm hugs) xx

It's that old adage saying: 'Until you walk in my shoes'.

A friend once said, that she used to tut & sigh when people complained of having a back ache. Until, she too,was so laid-up. She said she would never undermine someone else's pain ever again. It does help to be here,on this forum, because we do understand each other's pain & more. Trying to convey pain is difficult.... Also your friend is probably going through a type of grieving. When those close to us suffer from a disability,it can be hard to change your mental approach to life. It can also be difficult for you to be involved In things you would probably have done together.. Maybe you can try to explain to her again, that you have no idea where, when or how much pain & discomfort you could be going through at any given time.

No one can truly understand what you are going through unless they are a fellow sufferer Or they are good at reading literature you just happen to leave lying around. For me it's a case of I explain it once and if they don't get it, tough. If someone says welcome to my world and follows it up with telling me their aches and pains that are not related then I leave my ears open but my mind shut because with some people you cannot get them to understand that this is not your run of the mill bout of aches and pains. When all else fails turn to the forums where you will be understood xxx hugs
