I injured my wrist January 2017 and it’s hurt ever since but got really bad in November 2017 I went to the a&e they refused to X-ray gave me a splint well went to the docs last week as the pain is horrendous the doc said it’s the fibromyalgia apparently it likes old injury’s and zones in on them so she said I will always have it so I said so I’ve always have to wear the splint and her answer was yep anyone heard of this xxx

I would go back to your GP and ask if they will refer you for an x ray, as you're not happy with the diagnosis that it's just your fibro. x

If it's a very small fracture on one of those small bones in the wrist, it should repair itself in about 6 weeks if you wear the splint during the day time. This happened to me after a minor fall. Diagnosed with an X-ray about a week after it happened. I wasn't advised to wear a splint, but I thought it best to and it did help with the pain and I feel with the healing. Thinking more about it since replying, I remember I phoned up the NHS helpline and they suggested I go to an outpatients department at small hospital to get it xrayed as I have Osteoporosis . I was at the time used to wearing splints on that wrist as I had, had problems with it after taking a certain drug for Osteoporosis so had plenty of Velcro fitting splints available.

I had a two week period when my wrist pain was so hellish all I could do to relieve it was complete rest, hot/cold treatment, a makeshift splint, ibuprofen gel and co codamol.

The occupational therapist says it’s arthritis but the excercises she suggested made it worse.... so she recomended hot wax treatment and I can truly say my wrist joint felt warm for the first time in years - I was so impressed that I bought one and use it 3-4 times a week. I dip hands and feet 6 times then wrap in towels (bed socks work just as well!) and then rest for 20 mins - I even get enough relief to sleep! I also paint the wax onto my knee, elbows, hips and spine then wrap up in cling film and an old dressing gown which works much better than heat packs. Such a glamorous image I’m creating 😳.

Compression gloves really help when I’m out - I also have lumps on my finger joints that easily get cold, blue-ish, swollen and painful- but the fingerless gloves reduce the symptoms and keep my hands functional for longer ......

I find vibration, carrying weight, the cold, washing up, cold water, gardening - especially pruning (on a very good day!), typing, playing piano and general overuse make it worse.

My hands, feet, knees, hips and spine feel like I’m a 90 bad day....., I’m 53!
