Hi

I just want to find out if anyone fill out job application forms where on the form it asks if you have a disability. Do you have to declare your fibromyalgia or any other disability on the form? Can you just leave this space blank?

It gives all form of disability including “unseen illness”

Be grateful to hear what other people think as I am not sure and would rather leave it blank in case I don’t get the job but ...

Never seen that. I'm guessing if you don't declare and then need adaptations or other consideration, you may not get it. Also, you are not being honest if you say no.

It sounds discriminatory so I checked. Gov.com say;

Asking about health or disability

You can only ask about health or disability if:

"there are necessary requirements of the job that can’t be met with reasonable adjustments

you’re finding out if someone needs help to take part in a selection test or interview

you’re using ‘positive action’ to recruit a disabled person

You might be breaking the law if any discrimination happens during their recruitment process, even if you use a recruitment agency."

Does that help?

Thanks for replying Al10

On the form it says to tick yes or no if you have a disability. Then it says if you tick yes then choose which disability from a given list.

What I want to know if I could just ignore and skip the question

You answer how you like. Depends how much you want the job. You could ask why they ask? Or get a friend to? Or ask CAB? Really tricky. Wish you luck getting a nice job.😀

if a form specifically asks about disability and you say no ... then it can lead to issues further down the line. x

Hi Hazel

I am not saying that I will choose to tick the answer no. What I want to know is can I skip this question and don’t answer it at all and leave that question unanswered.
