Why do my Doctors in Wales keep telling me they do not believe in Fibromyalgia. I was living in Scotland when I was diagnosed by a Specialist. It has made me very sad, so mush so I try not to go to my Doctors , well as little as possible.

Hi gillianwilhelm , I am sorry you are having a negative experience with your GP but unfortunately there are still some medical professionals who refuse to acknowledge fibro as a genuine condition. It may do some good if you arrange to have a FMA UK Medical Professionals Pack sent to your current practice, you can find this on our main site, fmauk.org/, together with plenty of other useful information and links.
However I would consider changing your doctor as it makes all the difference having a supportive GP and I am sure not all doctors in Wales have the same attitude. I changed mine and it was the best thing I did. The Practice I am with now listed all their doctors on the website and showed each one's speciality or what they had a particular interest in. I was therefore able to select the one I felt would be best suited to me. I was lucky enough to end up with a GP who was not just knowledgeable about fibro but was also willing to work with me to find different ways to manage it.
I really hope you also manage to find one who is sympathetic but in the meantime welcome to the forum lovely, you will definitely receive lots of support and help from our friendly members here. However I notice you haven’t locked your post. You don't have to do this but you are likely to receive more replies if you do as many of our members are not keen on responding to unlocked ones, as they can be accessed by people outside the community. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the link below but if you get stuck please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

That sucks!
Can you find some of the new journal articles on Fibromyalgia, take them in, and ask them to read them?
Hello I actually asked my gp if he believed in fibro? He saide no good doctor could ignore fibro,of course its a real illness he also saide no doctor in this day an age would say its not real.it just shows you how different some doctors can be.mine is not a particularly nice doctor.but I'm greatfull he believes in our condition, I think I would change doctors if you can.how can you get support and help if he/she doesn't believe it exists !
