Sorry to hear about your diagnosis it always comes as a shock but it then means you know what you have and can start investigating things that might help.
Have you had a chance to look at our mother site Fibromyalgia Action UK as there is a wealth of information in there from medication, ways of coping to complimentary treatments like acupuncture, aromatherapy, etc? Sometimes a combination of the two is the best way forward. Even a change of diet to one that has more fresh ingredients rather than things with preservatives etc can help. Even though you might not feel like it gentle exercise even something like stretching can help as can things like hydrothereapy.
If the pain is your worse symptom asking to be referred to a Pain management clinic can be a good start. If you have any specific questions we around we will try and help you x
Hello Imelda and welcome!
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but this is a great forum to ask for information or advice.
May I ask who gave you your diagnosis, was it a Rheumatologist or your doctor? What information or advice did they give you? As rosewine said you can get information on fmauk.org
Also you could maybe look to see if there is a local support group that you can join (not sure where you live!!)
The best way to live with this condition is to learn to "pace" yourself, and not overdo things. Do small things and take regular breaks. Learn to "listen" to your body and when you start to feel pain, then stop, don't carry on! I find gentle exercise is the best, walking, yoga , swimming, and gentle stretching.
I have been diagnosed over 10 years, and I am still learning to pace myself, you need to be kind to yourself and accept that you have to adapt your lifestyle to give you a reasonable quality of life. I wish you all the best and if you have further questions, then ask away!!! Take care xxx
