I've been suffering from Tinnitus for many years and the one thing I've noticed is that when my Fibro flares up, my tinnitus gets worse. I'm sat here now, the last pain relief is wearing off and as my soreness and pain return full force to my head, face, shoulders, back and arms that my tinnitus is getting louder. Does any one else suffer with this?

Yes, I've had tinnitus for about 2 years now. Thankfully I don't have the ringing or whistling noise but mine is more like a hum or low roar but when it is really loud it sounds like there is a tumble dryer inside my head. I have noticed that it starts to really boom when I have a flare. However mine tends to get louder when I'm stressed so I think it is because my stress levels go up when I'm in pain that my tinnitus increases in volume. x
Hi Ramjets, I believe that the years of stress and lack of sleep that I suffered from when my disabled son was still at home has resulted in my getting my IBS, Depression and Fibromyalgia. Too much stress is an evil beast and I believe is the cause of many ailments. My tinnitus is a high pitched ringing and extremely loud when it's quiet around me but then I can't bear sound or noise loud enough to distract me from it so have learnt to live with it. I do think you could be right in that it gets louder as you tense up with the pain. x
I agree hun I think stress is at the root of many conditions. I don't envy you having the high pitched ringing tinnitus, mine's not as bad as that and tends to blend in with other noises around me usually. It's only when it's quiet that it becomes more pronounced. When it's really loud I sometimes listen to music on my headphones (not too loud) and it does help. x
Now there is something I haven't tried, I will have to give headphones a go, will let you know if works for me, thank you for the tip. x
Hi I only get this when my TMJ in my jaw is bad so I get clicking in the right side of my jaw and ringing in my left ear, suppose it is all connected. Hope you get some relief soon. X
I have a newsletter from tinnitus talk and they just asked us to complete a survey to see whether they can find a link between other health problems and the tinnitus. They were asking what influenced if anything how bad our tinnitus was. One of mine is the pain levels and if I am having a flare it seems as though my body irritated by everything and this makes my tinnitus worse.x
Evening Rosewin,
Tinnitus talk, is that a support group for tinnitus? This group is the first one I've joined (advised to do so by my doctor) so have not searched for support groups for my other ailments. I hear the ringing constantly but when I'm really ill it gets louder and the last 3 weeks is the loudest its ever been. x
Hi. Yes I suffer from tinnitus also. My tinnitus sounds like the noise you would hear at the end of the night when TV was done at I think midnight! If you can remember when TV wasn't 24/7 😁 terrible isn't it! It's more noticeable at night. Take care. Chris
Ive had tinnitus for over 4 years and was diagnosed with fibro 3 years ago. I saw an ent consultant because I get bouts of vertigo and I asked him if it was linked to fibro and he said no it was linked to calcium deposits in my inner ear. I do think though that my tinnitus gets louder when Im stressed or in more pain so personally I do think there is a link. Thanks for the info about the tinnitus forum rosewine. gentle hugs Joolz.x
I've blamed the excessive stress in my life for a lot of things and l am sure that excessive stress is a guilty party in a lot of health conditions that are linked. If there are calcium deposit in the inner ear, is there anything that can be done about it hebden? I too am thankful to rosewine for the lead to the tinnitus forum x
I asked the ENT consultant if anything can be done about tinnitus or the calcium deposits and he just said the way to get rid of calcium deposits is through the Epley manoeuvre (you tube it to see how its done) (sorry Im no good at putting links on). He said nothing can be done for tinnitus but I have lost some hearing. x
When I get tinnitus it's like the volume (of whatever is going on around me ) gets turned down suddenly, like a radio. I can barely hear anything and then the internal noises start.
Oh Shazzzy, that sounds awful, I'm lucky in the respect that tv/radio/teenage granddaughter attitude/loud daughter etc do ease my tinnitus. Have you had it investigated and if so what have they said?
Yea I feel for Having Fibromygia is horrible but Tinatass takes the cake I suffer from it badley What a cruel blow life has dealt to us Yea the name of the game is tokepcalm You can get maskers they wish in your ears to cover the Tinatass loving Huggs to you xx
Hi there.i do badly.i have my own theory that we are so tense when in pain that we grit our teeth/jaw tightly due to the pain.i know I do.i feel this gives pain in the jaw and ear and therefore brings on tinnitus. I could be very wrong though.lol.xxxx
My friend does hopi ear candling and has been told it helps with tinnitus. Obviously consult a doctor before trying but worth a shot.
I get tinnitus a lot, but I also had it before I developed Lupus. Now I get it when I've been resting a short while ('EG for a 'power nap'). For me, it's either a dull whistle ( like the early TVs used to make) or a white noise hiss, like escaping steam. It goes temporarily after a night's sleep. I went to a Tinnitus Clinic who told me I can overcome it only by having something louder to drown it, such as loud music through ear buds, or hearing aid designed to provide a background noise to drown it. For me, the cure seems worse than the affliction!! Of course my family make a fuss when I turn the TV up louder than the hiss, so that I can hear the words, so I may wear amplifying ear buds instead.
Hey Cuddlyka, me too!! flippin, buzzy ,ringy, hissy noise It's so hard to explain the sound to other people isn't it ? I've had it for so long too. Sometimes when I get up in the night , it's actually something that can keep me awake. I read many of the various side effects, that all these drugs we have to take to keep going, and tinnitus is often one of them. It seems that to take a drug to help us one way, is at the expense of getting something else as a sort of trade off. Not sure if I want to continue taking all these meds , and just see if all these other side effects disappear? I'm sure that the pain relief I'm getting from them is at a bare minimum anyway, and probably popping a couple of paracetamol would do just as much good. Does your head feel spaced out, and whizzy? I'm sick of it. Anyway.. to end on a lighter note...."How do you make a Venetian blind ?"...... Poke his eyes out..ha ha , have a nice day, luv Mandy xx
You can say that again !! there's so much fog in my head, that I can only find my way to the biscuit tin. ha ha .. gotta laugh 'avn't yer..... luv mandy. xx
How funny...but please don't mention biscuits to me as dunking biscuits into my tea is one of my comfort occupations! And guess what...I may now have a fatty liver to be kind to also, so am under instructions by my doctor to loose weight which is not easy when you can't exercise much...aghhhh!!!
