Clairebear121 If you want to wean off them please do it very, very slowly and with the help of your doctor. You can't just stop these cold turkey or you'll have terrible withdrawal symptoms. I've been trying to come off pregabalin for a few years now. I never went up to a high dose as they made me too zombie-like so 175mg was the highest I went. But it's still taken me a long time to wean slowly down to 50mg a day. Please speak to your doctor about this. Good luck!

I was on them. I started on a low dose in Feb, a month later the doc raised the dosage...I became suddenly depressed - not the usual low mood but full-on black thoughts...doc then reduced the dose slightly and I continued to take it. At the same time I noticed a swelling in my throat, swallowing was harder. GP checked thyroid (all clear). I spoke with the pharmacist and we agreed this was an adverse reaction...I stopped my pregabalin immediately....can I stress that you should speak with your doctor really before you stop taking it...I only stopped because I decided the side effects were more unpleasant than any withdrawal could be. I was on them in total for about three months and had no bad withdrawal...I felt 'off' for about three days, mildly unwell...but with fibro 'off' is no big deal. Some people have a horrible time coming off them, some people find them to be the best thing going...it's all individual...this is why a chat with your doc is the best way forward. Best of luck. xxx

Hi there Clairebear121 and a very warm welcome to the group. I think you should call your GP and tell them exactly how you are suffering. Anything that makes you feel bad no matter how long or short a time you have been on it your doctor needs to know. The GP will know if this is a normal reaction to your medication.

If you wish to stop taking any medication this must be done with the help and the knowledge of your doctor. Tell the GP you wish to come of your medication and why. They then can tell you the best way to do this and are able to monitor and assure you while your going through the weaning off process.

You may wish to take a peak at our mother site it has a wealth of information you may find helpful. Please call your GP in the morning and good Luck xx

Helps with pain but side effects terrible and reducing even worse.I know I am still on it.I went into drug withdrawal side effects when asked to reduce 50 mg day so my GP helped by suggesting 25mg day 1st week then 25mg morning and evening dose next week then extra 25mg the following week and so on.This was gentler so am now down to 350mg day instead of 450mg and sticking with that for now as now in more pain.

Good luck

I've just weaned myself off them with my doctors help as side effects are bad. Memory loss, confusion, headaches, etc. I'd been taking 300mg twice a day for nerve pain in spine. All side effects now gone and trying other meds now.

I went down by 75mg per week. If you rush it you will have problems. Doc told me it's worst med for side affects at present. Worse than tramadol. Good luck. I've now to try out alternative.

I do understand as I was prescribed Pregabalin and after only a few days was in a very very dark place.....I was then supposed to increase the dose after 10 days..I didn't but spoke with GP who told me to cut down slowly over a week. As I had only taken it for a very short while I didn't feel too bad but the thing was it certainly helped my pain but I just couldn't take it.....Hope you can get sorted soon...x
