Hi Sueblay Welcome to our wonderful forum, I'm sure you will love it and find it invaluable chatting to others who are going through the same as you, at different stages of their lives with fibromyalgia.

You really have come to the right place my friend and I look forward to chatting with you on the forum.

I'm sorry you have been diagnosed with fibro, it takes a while to sink in and time to accept. Although it also comes as a relief of finally knowing what is wrong with you.

Medication is a very different thing because everyone is so different and although there are specific symptoms with fibro, no one is the same & that's why it is so difficult to diagnose and medicate. It is usually a concoction of meds that help relieve the symptoms but, it is common for GPS to prescribe Gabapentin or Pregablin, Amitriptyline help with a lot of fibro symptoms and pain relief, tramadol or codeine are quite commonly given, like I say though, everyone's different and your doctor will give you what he or she thinks will help your symptoms. I hope that helps my friend.

Please do go check out the mother site fmauk.org where you will find lots of useful information and links on fibro.

Peace, luv n light

Jan xx

Hi Janet

Thank you for your quick reply, I have been given codeine and amitriptyline and find the amitriptyline is great which I take before bed but no matter how many Codeine I take it doesn't relieve the pain. So I guess it is like you say trial and error. Thanks for the link I will take look.

Your welcome honey ☺ yes I know what you mean, sometimes codiene doesn't help on its own but with certain other meds it does help. I think it take the severity of the pain away, although I still have sudden pain on moving or just for no reason & they do nothing for those pains. I'm surprised your gp hasn't given you pregab or gabapentin, GPS seem to prescribe one of these for Fibro symptoms. Have you been back to your gp & told him they are not helping. I'm on Butrans Patches, they constantly release a small dose of buprenorphine and I take codiene xx

Hi Janet

Thanks for the advice I am back to the specialist in July so I'm going to be talking to her about the meds as my Doctor is a complete waste of time.

I have heard of pregab and gabapentine the specialist mentions them last time I was there but wanted to try the codeine and amitriptyline first, just a process of elimination.

Thanks again Janet 😊 xx

Your very welcome honey. Hope it all goes well for you, not much longer to wait. Pregabalin, marketed under the brand name Lyrica among others, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and generalized anxiety disorder among other things like RLS. This is why doctors prescribe for fibro. The specialist will probably ask the doctor to prescribe them for you if fibro is diagnosed or something similar.

Xx

Hi Sue, welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed 10 weeks ago. I'm currently taking amitriptyline which seems to be helping me. I also have warm Epsom salts/magnesium baths, use a magnesium spray on painful areas and have started to use a TENS machine which really helps my knee pain. I'm trying to pace myself but I'm not very good at it but I think it takes a lot of practice. I'm also trying out some of the mindfulness techniques that I have googled.

There is a lot of support and helpful advice to be had here.
