Hi all, I work full time hours and I'm struggling, I asked my boss if I could drop a day and she said no as there's not enough staff. Was just wondering if I have any rights..
Many thanks

Hi Millie_83
I am sorry to hear you are struggling with full time work and Fibro.
I honestly do think that your best bet is to seek advice from the CAB. They are very knowledgeable and would be able to help you more than we could.
I really do feel for you. I managed to work full time for 34 years but it just became too much so I know how you feel.
I hope you are able to come to some sort of arrangement with your boss.
Wishing you a peaceful weekend

Hi
You do have rights if you are considered disabled for an employer to make reasonable adjustments.
gov.uk/definition-of-disabi...

Perhaps instead of asking for a full day off, you could ask to job share or to finish earlier or start later. It sounds as though your employer is concerned that the work you do will not be covered, so it may be up to you to try and find a sensible balance.
Remind her though that if you reach a period of pain and exhaustion through not being able to rest or recover properly, you will need to take sick leave.
If you are a member of a union, seek their advice or contact ACAS through your local job centre. Also Citizens Advice may be able to help.

Hi thanks for your reply
I'm a dental nurse and work along side the dentist which makes things tricky to drop a day :/
I worked throughout my recent flare which lasted a few months, I did take one day off sick. As my boss try's to make me feel guilty if I was to call in sick they will have to cancel patients.
As a result I've now developed depression and anxiety the GP has referred me to the mental health team now.
Thank you for your advice I'll look into it xx
Hi Millie
Apologies for butting in!
Have you ever heard of MIND the mental health organisation?
You can see a Project Worker for one hour per week and just talk.
There are also courses that you can attend (which I appreciate you may not be able to do as you are working).
All of their services are free.
It may be worthwhile you looking into it?

We have four dentists and fours nurses.
We can only take annual leave when a dentist is off also
Hi, is that a private practise or the NHS you work for? ACAS is a really good place to go they are the gold standard for employment law and rights as an employee. They can help with where u stand. Someone already mentioned that as it's a registered disability under the disability act your employees can not refuse reasonable adjustments and that includes reducing hours.
Do u have an occ health department? You could also self refer to them and generally the employer has to go by what they say so if they think it's reasonable again your emplyer can't refuse. As a dental nurse are u part of a union? They can also advise on this
Hope it helps

Cancel the dairy or see if someone is spare from another practice as I work for a corporate
Hi Millie83
I agree with the other admin. Please do look up the information you have recieved.
Good luck my friend :)
Hi Millie83. I agree with the advice Harleyquin has given you. I found ACAS really helpful with my employment problems and they even confirmed that the depression I'd had years before as well as fibro would be a registered disability. They were easy to talk to on the phone. I was able to drop hours through reasonable adjustments. good luck. hugs Joolz.x
Hi Millie_83
I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are struggling wit work so much and I can see that you have been given some absolutely wonderful advice and replies. I really agree with Harleyquin as Occupational Therapy Assessment could help you and talking to ACAS is also a good idea. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Sounds to me as if the practice is penny-pinching if they don't have a 'spare' for covering sickness and holidays.
ACAS is a good place to start, CAB can be good, and I find the Money Savings Expert Forum a good place to go for information.
Do you have a Professional Body? Might be worth checking with them also.
