Try Citizens Advice Bureau. My thinking is it would be better to claim disablement benefits. I dont think you can retire as such to claim State pension, and disablement benefits, depending on your circumstances, would be better financially. Legal advice with someone who advses on benefits would be the best way to go.
Hello Fiz- I retired at 61, you would need to approach your pension provider and ask, at 45??? I paid into nhs pension for 12 years and only get Β£103 per month!!! IF you enquire about ESA & PIP allowance (if you don't already get it) your n.i stamps for your gov pension are kept up to date, if you stop work your pension will freeze, you need to find out what age they allow retirement. I managed on sick pay ESA PIP for 8 months before I finally got retirement, if you go long term sick your pension will be deducted from sick pay and accumulate, every pension company have different rules so you need reaaly , to ask them.. Hope you get good results.
Yes it is an option, but I would get as much information from your HR department and union. Also seek advice from CAB.
You need to work out the financial constraints of a much smaller pension and/or ESA

Your employer also has a responsibility to offer reduced working hours and adapt your work station if possible.

Obviously this is not always easy to do.
I retired early from local government and my pension is a very paltry Β£6 a week!

Hi Fiz16
As the others have said, yes it is an option but it is not always easy to achieve it. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you

I took I'll health pension. I took my union rep to all meetings. I got a fair deal. Look into it. Will you loose your job due to Ill health ?
