One of the side effects of Amitriptyline can be weight gain, but not all patients taking this drug will gain weight whilst on it. I have pasted for you below a link to a Arthritis Research UK pdf booklet about Amitriptyline.

I am on nortriptoline which is very similar to amitriptyline and have had no weight gain . I am pretty careful with my food intake as I can't walk far nor exercise much but know that I have to keep my weight down so as not to put more strain on my spine.

I might be just lucky though

40 mg at night but I am taking oxycodone and carbamazipin as well so it's a bit of a sledge hammer. I can't take more because even that dose gives me such a dry mouth during the day that speaking is hard sometimes !

Yes, I gained quite a bit of weight unfortunately. Already being quite large at the time my doses were increased, I had to diet to compensate.
