Just been watching the reruns of a channel4 programme "catastrophe"it's a comedy I'm furious because some doctor(just an actor) said that fibromyalgia was basically made up and we choose to have it or not!!!!!! I am absoloutely disgusted and insulted. How dare these writers make joked about our illness.

Ch 4 have a complaints procedure which they take seriously, refer them to our Forum and demand an apology from the actor or the writer of the programme for this..

I'm just filling out the complaints form online caz do you think it will matter that this show was first shown just over two years ago ? A lot of people will be watching the reruns because there's a new series coming out and I wanted to see if I liked it or not. I'm certainly not watching the rest of it now!

The fact that it was advertised and shown makes a good complaint

Hi Teddysmum43 , I'm not familiar with the program and won't be either! ! Take care. Peck.🐤

Fibro being made up is a very common theory, I have talked to many people who have been diagnosed and some who's GP totally refuse to acknowledge it's existence.

We do not imagine the pain we are and just because they can't actually find the reasons behind it doesn't mean it is made up.

I wouldn't waste your time making complaints, you'll get a letter or email of apology and that will be that and all forgotten.

We have been diagnosed by real medics, it is recognised by government and MOD so take no notice of this TV show. xxx

This is discusting! Although my own GP said pretty much the same thing to me so it doesn't suprise me, unfortunately!

Never seen this programme but glad you are making a complaint, it's the only way some people will find out about fibromyalgia

I have not seen this TV programme but I personally think that it should not make fun of disabled people. Go for it my friend! x

It pulls the rug, doesn't it? People denying your experience of the world. One day they will figure out our pain. At that point I wonder if they will have to change it's name? For two reasons, one. when they find our condition it will be it's own thing (unlikely to be anything to do with arthritis) and two, fibro is tainted as being the 'Can't be Arsed' syndrome, beloved of folks shirking!! I hate having to say I have Fibro as I know so many folks are unbelievers. It's humiliating. If I was actually making up something to have, I think I would try to find something better.

Just to let you all know that I did make the complaint and today I have received an apology and that no offence was intended, well personally I was insulted. That's in my opinion. We go through so much every day to make a mockery of it is just too much.

It's hard not to be offended by it, but it just shows the average persons understanding of it and how important it is for people to hear real information about it. I personally would prefer to rename it and let the ignorant wallow in their lack of knowledge.

I mean obviously these people knew the approach of their joke, they knew what it was saying, they aren't that stupid. They just truely thought that fibro was an excuse for people to get painkillers. You should see the shock on people's face when I tell them its real and what I feel and don't take drugs. They always say, oh I thought people just claimed fibro FOR drugs.

People lack knowledge and we honestly can't explain much or well enough to understand. I have explained things pretty well to my husband, but he admits that he truely doesn't understand. (Even though he know, which I don't understand how I can explain things and talk it through, and he still not understand)

And there will always be @$$#*/*$ that will say that just to be provocative.

I vote on a name change, fibro is tainted.

:) Take care××
