Your favourite garden flowers

Hello everyone, in an effort to cheer myself up and forget my FM I'm wondering which flowers I can have in my summer garden. Sweet peas are my first choice but I'd welcome suggestions from you lovely people !

Hi hun, I made myself and my upstairs neighbour a little flower garden from what was a scrap heap! we have blue poppy, buffalo tulips, cordelians, daffys, Lttle garden lights that work off solar power. I,ll try to take an up to date pic when the winds die down and you can see what is sprouting...

I'm in heat zone 11 which I think is not the same for most people here but I can tell you what I have right now! I've got red begonias blooming and lavender lantanas, though I just deadheaded a bunch of them. I've got some small blue flowers that I don't know the name of but they look great next to the lavender ones. These are all in pots in my front garden outside. Then there's red-purple impatiens and pansies that are orange and white and violet---so cute! And the newest combos are pink flowers that I don't know the name of but there are 3 kinds of flowers in 1 big container for each. I've got to research them but I'm not home or in town to do that right now.

I love all of these flowers and 4 of these containers are recent buys because the prices have been so low! How lucky can you get??

Around the rest of the yard there's lots of stuff blooming now like azaleas, white birds of paradise, hibiscus, salvia and purple ground orchids. I'm so lucky to have these! But we do pay the price with horrible humid heat that's relentless day after day in the summer and fall into the winter.

They are slug resistant. Easy to propagate. You can grow stuff underneath because they are tall. They will do well in pots. Stand in winter with seed heads. In spring you just cut then back. I grow them with cosmos which are annuals. With dead heading they go on until the frosts.

How long Ida piece of string as they say? Do you like a particular set of colours eg some people are into yellow, red, orange and other like a more subdued palette of soft lemons, pinks, blues so that could be your starting point. Others like a magnificent jumble of colours. Next decide if they have to be all low growing or whether again you want a mixture. Do you want an annual or do you want something that with a bit if care comes up each year?

I love nasturtiums as the seeds are cheap to buy, big so good for stiff fibro fingers to plant and you can get every colour from pale cream, lemon, yellow,orange, red. You can get trailing which wutha but of training will go upwards or neat little mounds and everything in between, they are annuals and like the sun. Aqualagias are lovely and again you can get them in different colours and once sown they will usually pop up next year but perhaps with a different colour. Cosmos are also beautiful. Fuchsias are gorgeous and of course we mustn't forget roses. I love snapdragons and you can get dahlias of every size, colour and shape.

I have stopped there as you can tell when gardening is involved I run away with myself, lol. I only have a pocket handkerchief now instead of the big garden I had before so live viscerally through other people's gardens.🌸💮🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷💐x

We're spoilt for choice aren't we where flowers are concerned. I'm with you where nasturtiums are concerned, I didn't know there was such a choice in them. Roll on spring and we can get out there and do a bit each day. Get the sun and wind in our faces !

I do prefer pastel colours. Having FM forces me to grow easy to look after plants, one in particular, Lavatera, it's tough, and yet so pretty, up to 2 or 3 feet!

Lavatera is a lovely plant and the butterflies and bees seem to love it to.x

Hi my friend

I have one particular spot in my front garden that is a sun magnet. I have a couple of palm trees planted there and I tend to have South African plants (as they are very vibrant when in flower) I have Gazanias, Proteas, Osteospermum, Arctotis (African daisy), Crocosmia etc. They are simply beautiful.
