Lot of pain
Hello dadappleton- it is my opinion if you are just being tried and tested on various pain relieving drugs with no effect, you need further intervention from a specialist like a rheumatologist or pain clinic. Always remember we are NOT expected to endure unbearable pain, we have an A&E who WILL help to relieve pain for you. I have presented 3 times at A&E with excrutiating head aches (migraine) fibro pain and calcium crystal disease pain; over the 15 years I,ve had fibro , I was put on an IV infusion of pain relief that a G.P is not allowed to prescribe and I do not regret it, the hospital staff have told me on 2 of the 3 occasions to come to them and not to sit and suffer, there is a limit a g.p can go that's why we have specialists to take the matter further for us.. don't hesitate, present at A&E and let them help you.
Hi Dadappleton24
Welcome to our friendly fibro site where you will find advice, support, help and information.
Have you seen our Mother Site fmauk.org ?
Here you wll find a wealth of information including links and guides.
I am sorry to hear you are suffering in this way. You haven't said how long you have been diagnosed with fibro so it is a little difficult to advise you with your medications.
If you feel they are having little impact on your pain then I suggest you make an appointment with your GP to discuss either increasing the dosage or prescribing something different which may be more effective.
There is a "sister" drug to Gabapentin which is called Pregabelin and this has been proven to give relief to many sufferers. I, along with many others also take amitriptyline and found it very useful against pain and for aiding sleep.
You will find though that taking any medication takes time to be effective, and in the case of Gabapentin can be as much as six weeks.
Another option is to ask for a referral to a Pain Clinic, although there might be a bit of a waiting list, it can be very effective.
Hoping that you find relief soon
Kay

Try to be referred to a pain clinic, where you get to learn how to cope with pain, and alternative to strong pain killers. As they can get you pain as well, and worse tolerance to them. Remember this hum-hum illness you will have for long time. I got fibro diagnosed 1991. And believe me doctors has made a total reconsider of the illness. No one will end up as a junky, so try to take minimal with pills. And learn different breathing technic as we breathe wrong when we have pain. And try TENS electric very nice. Ask someone to just massage you by just stroke. Hot water, or cold water, a good book, nice cuddly dog/cat/or teddy, and try just relax in bed. Google, maybe you find the ONE thing for you. But taking more and more painkillers is not the answer unfortunately. You only destroy your tummy. You shall do things that make you happy, calm, relaxed. For my part my interests in horses has been my salvation. I have discovered just this week that camphor and menthol ointment is good for me. (Use to use it for the horses as well). As it in the beginning you get iced on the skin, then the heat comes and sooth you.
Good luck
Lizzie
