Hi Bow08

I have Sjogrens Syndrome which is an autoimmune condition, (along with several others) This causes dryness in all the moist areas of the body but is felt worse with dry eyes and dry mouth.

I suggest you look this up and see if it applies to you, and if so ask for a blood test to check for the antibodies.

It can also be a side effect of some medications, particularly amitriptyline.

I have Salivix which are sugar free pastilles and encourage the production of saliva. There are sprays and mouthwashes you can use but are not as discreet when you are out.

Be sure to tell your dentist about your dry mouth as the lack of saliva can encourage bacteria.

Hope you get a result soon.

I get dry mouth associated with Fibro and the meds. My Rheumi gave me Glansane an aerosol of artificial saliva. You can get it in 2 different flavours. Suggest you ask and maybe you can get some?

Hi Bow08

I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are experiencing this and I have the same due to my steroids. I have an artificial saliva spray on prescription which I find helps me a great deal. It's full name is: Glandosane Artificial Saliva Spray. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

The others have given brilliant advice I do think many of the meds don't help with this, I seem to actual produce plenty of saliva but because of sinus problems associated mostly with the fibro I realise I breathe through my mouth so it is as though my tongue dries out. I find sucking a boiled sweet or something like a Jakemans cough sweet especially the black one helps immensely. Good luck at the GP'S.x

Sounds like side effects of your Meds. I used to have the same thing when I was taking pregabalin. Now I am off the Meds,. I'm fine. You may want to look at the meds.

Have a great day.

Yes i also suffer from a dry mouth and my dentist has gave me a special toothpaste and mouth wash to protect my teeth she claims that if you have no saliva in your mouth your teeth will rot alot quicker without the saliva to protect them

Just a thought but among other things it can be an early sign of the onset of type 2 diabetes, it may be worth you looking up the other possible symptoms and seeing if any other indicators match. I hope your appointment sorts it out. Blessings.

Hi Bow, yes I do, I have to have a drink before I can talk. I carry a bottle of water when going out. Have you been checked for Diabetes? It's horrible, I feel for you

One of the most common causes of dry mouth is side effects from medication. Sometimes it can help to drink something citrus.

I have Sicca or Sjorgens syndrome - dry eyes and dry mouth. ENS department diagnosed some years back but offered no treatment. However it comes up when I go to dentist and optician and I have to use prescribed mouth sprays and eye drops with no artificial content. They help a bit and Saliveze for mouth and Hyco San eyedrops are available from Boots Chemists.

I had this problem for many years, I asked my rheumo doc about it he said this either Sjorgrens or Sicca syndrome but not what causes it!
